Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE ARC OF RENSSELAER COUNTY IS COMMITTED TO ADVOCATING FOR THE RIGHTS AND SAFETY OF INDIVIDUALS OF ALL AGES WHO PRIMARILY HAVE INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES AND, IN SOME INSTANCES, HAVE OTHER DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES OR DELAYS. THE ARC IS A SOURCE OF SUPPORT, SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, AND RESOURCES IN ASSISTING INDIVIDUALS AND THEIR FAMILIES TO DETERMINE THEIR NEEDS AND GOALS. THE ARC ALSO WORKS TO INFLUENCE SOCIETAL ATTITUDES AND RESOURCES SO THAT PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES WILL HAVE ACCESS TO THE SERVICES, ASSISTANCE, AND OPPORTUNITIES THEY NEED FOR PERSONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT AND PARTICIPATION IN THE COMMUNITY.
NYSARC WAS FOUNDED IN 1949 TO MEET A CRITICAL MISSION - TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL AND OTHER DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES.
COMMUNITY RESIDENCE - PROVIDES SUPPORT TO ADULTS IN HOUSING AND HOME LIFE IN A VARIETY OF SETTINGS, RANGING FROM 24-HOUR SUPERVISED SETTINGS TO SUPPORTIVE APARTMENT LIVING, TO A SMALL SHARED LIVING EXPERIENCE WITH PEOPLE WITH OR WITHOUT DISABILITIES.
RIVERSIDE ENTERPRISES - THIS IS THE VOCATIONAL TRAINING COMPONENT WHICH INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING: SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT FOR ADULTS IN VARIOUS JOB SETTINGS THROUGHOUT THE CAPITAL DISTRICT. VOCATIONAL SERVICES FOR ADULTS WHO PERFORM WORK IN PACKAGING PRODUCTS AND WIRE FORMING. A SCHOOL-TO-EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM ASSISTS STUDENTS FROM THREE SCHOOL DISTRICTS AS THEY TRANSITION FROM THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM INTO EMPLOYMENT.
BRUNSWICK CENTER SERVICES - PROVIDES DAY PROGRAMMING FOR ADULTS INVOLVING A WIDE VARIETY OF OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN THE COMMUNITY AS WELL AS PHYSICAL, SPEECH AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY, PREVOCATIONAL SERVICES, GERIATRIC SERVICES, AND INDEPENDENT LIVING.
