THE ORGANIZATION STRIVES TO PROTECT, EMPOWER AND PROMOTE INDEPENDENCE FOR AT-RISK CHILDREN AND FAMILIES AND THOSE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES THROUGH QUALITY COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES.
THE CARDINAL MCCLOSKEY SCHOOL AND HOME FOR CHILDREN (D/B/A CARDINAL MCCLOSKEY COMMUNITY SERVICES) (THE "AGENCY") IS A NON-SECTARIAN SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCY WHICH SERVES ABUSED AND NEGLECTED CHILDREN, AT-RISK FAMILIES AND DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED ADULTS. THE AGENCY PROVIDES CARE TO THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES FROM NEW YORK CITY, WESTCHESTER AND ROCKLAND COUNTIES THROUGH TWENTY ONE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS INCLUDING: FOSTER BOARDING HOMES; ADOPTION SERVICES; INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAMS; GROUP HOMES FOR TEEN GIRLS; EMERGENCY RESIDENTIAL CARE; FAMILY COUNSELING; AT RISK SERVICES; PARENTING TRAINING; GROUP DAY CARE; FAMILY DAY CARE AND EMERGENCY FOOD DISTRIBUTION; AS WELL AS GROUP HOMES, DAY HABILITATION AND SERVICE COORDINATION FOR ADULTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES.
OPWDD PROGRAMS:1) SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES - THESE INCLUDE 18 INDIVIDUAL RESIDENTIAL GROUP HOMES FOR MORE THAN 99 ADULTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. THESE 99 RESIDENTS ARE PROVIDED WITH EXCEPTIONAL CARE AND SUPPORT, 24 HOURS A DAY, AND ARE STAFFED BY SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR PERSONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT; CONVERTED AN INTERMEDIATE CARE FACILITY INTO INDIVIDUAL RESIDENTIAL GROUP HOMES THAT SERVES 46 INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES WITH MEDICAL FRAILTIES; DAY SERVICES FOR 46 ADULTS THAT FOCUSES ON VOCATIONAL SKILL BUILDING AND COMMUNITY INTEGRATION AND ACTIVITIES THAT IMPROVE SOCIALIZATION SKILLS; 2) THE OPWDD FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES - OPWDD FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES FUNDS SHORT TERM FAMILY ASSISTANCE FOR FAMILIES IN WESTCHESTER COUNTY THAT DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE MEDICAID. A SERVICE COORDINATOR ASSISTS THE FAMILIES WITH COMPLETING SUBSIDY APPLICATIONS, SUCH AS SOCIAL SECURITY, MEDICAID, FOOD STAMPS OR OTHER ASSISTANCE. THE SERVICE COORDINATOR ALSO WORKS WITH THE FAMILY IN LOCATING SERVICES FOR THE INDIVIDUAL IN THEIR FAMILY WITH A DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY. THE SERVICES MAY INCLUDE A DAY AND/OR RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM, RECREATION AND RESPITE SERVICES. THE SERVICE COORDINATION SERVICES ARE PROVIDED UNTIL THE INDIVIDUAL IS ELIGIBLE AND ENROLLED TO RECEIVE MEDICAID BENEFITS AND CAN THEN RECEIVE THROUGH OUR MEDICAID SERVICE COORDINATION.
FAMILY FOSTER CARE/TREATMENT FAMILY FOSTER CARE PROVIDES FAMILY-BASED CARE, CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES AND ACCESS TO NEEDED TREATMENTS AND SUPPORT, AND PERMANENCY PLANNING SERVICES, INCLUDING REUNIFICATION, KIN-GAP AND ADOPTION TO CHILDREN REMOVED FROM THEIR HOMES DUE TO ABUSE OR NEGLECT. FAMILY FOSTER CARE ALSO SUPPORTS CERTIFIED FOSTER PARENTS WITH TRAINING AND SUPERVISION. TREATMENT FAMILY FOSTER CARE IS DESIGNED FOR CHILDREN WITH MORE SERIOUS EMOTIONAL DISTURBANCES AND OTHER MENTAL HEALTH AND BEHAVIORAL CONDITIONS THAT CALL FOR SPECIALLY TRAINED FOSTER PARENTS AND A MORE INTENSIVE SET OF SERVICES. APPROXIMATELY 255 CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES WERE SERVED IN IN OUR FOSTER CARE PROGRAMS AND 28 CHILDREN WERE ADOPTED.
FAMILY DAY CARE PROVIDES IN-HOME DAY CARE SERVICES AND A NUTRITIONAL FOOD PROGRAM FOR 873 CHILDREN EACH DAY AND SUPPORTS APPROXIMATELY 120 DAY CARE PROVIDERS WITH TRAINING AND SUPERVISION. THE PROGRAM SEEKS TO STRENGTHEN FAMILY LIFE AND MAINTAIN CHILDREN IN A HEALTHY, SAFE AND EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT WITH NUTRITIOUS FOOD AND MULTIPLE CREATIVE TECHNIQUES FOR DEVELOPMENT AND SUCCESS. WE ARE ONE OF THE LARGEST FAMILY CHILD NETWORKS IN NYC.
