JCC Rockland is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the enrichment and continuity of Jewish life and to the preservation of Jewish heritage.
Beyond the Bell, All Day at the JAs of March 2020, a professional after-school program was offered to nearly 270 students in three of Rockland Countys elementary schools and a program at the JCC. A most attractive feature is that most of the students never leave their school to participate in our after-school program. As a result, they were in familiar surroundings and are not exposed to additional bus trips. Parents collect the children at the conclusion of the after-school day. The program is geared to the needs of the children and the desires of the parents. The program was offered at the JCC when, on select days, public schools are closed or close early. Since March this program has not operated due to schools not allowing the program to take place. A new program, All Day at the J was developed for school age children (grades Kindergarten through grade 5), for children doing remote learning typically every other day of the week. Approximately 80-90 children are enrolled in the program.
Full Day Early Childhood ProgramIn September 2014, JCC opened a full-day Early Childhood program available for ages 6 weeks to pre-kindergarten. As of March 2020, 97 children were enrolled. The Early Childhood program reopened for first responders in the middle of July 2020 with 18 children. In September, there were 75 children enrolled and currently in December there are 78 children enrolled. A kindergarten class with 7 children was added in September based on a new demand.
Youth Sports Our kids basketball program had approximately 350 children, more than all other sports programs during the fiscal year. The size of the program requires the use of many gyms around the county. A typical year includes participation in mini soccer, basketball, mini basketball, pre-k soccer and mini baseball.Day CampApproximately 600 children participated in summer camp through JCC Rockland during the summer of 2019. Over 300 children attended weekly on-site camp programs through Camp Discover and All-Star Sports Camp. Additionally, approximately 25 campers in grades K through 6 enjoy one or two sessions of structured camp activities each summer at the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds in Pearl River, NY. In the summer of 2020, JCC Rockland was able to operate summer camp at approximately 50% of the 2019 levels. This included all camps from 2019 excluding All-Star Sports Camp and the camp at the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds.
