ARTSWESTCHESTER STRIVES TO MAKE THE ARTS AVAILABLE AND ACCESSABLE TO ALL RESIDENTS OF WESTCHESTER COUNTY, AND FOSTERS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A VIBRANT ARTS SECTOR IN THIS COUNTY OF 1 MILLION PEOPLE. ARTSWESTCHESTER'S PROGRAMS AND SERVICES ARE DESIGNED TO PROMOTE AND INCREASE PARTICIPATION IN THE ARTS, ADVANCE DIVERSITY AND INCLUSIVENESS AND BUILD AWARENESS OF THE PUBLIC BENEFITS OF THE ARTS.
THE MISSION OF ARTSWESTCHESTER IS "TO PROVIDE LEADERSHIP, VISION AND SUPPORT TO ENSURE THE AVAILABILITY, ACCESSIBILITY AND DIVERSITY OF THE ARTS IN WESTCHESTER COUNTY." ESTABLISHED IN 1965 AS A PRIVATE NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION, ARTSWESTCHESTER IS WESTCHESTER COUNTY'S DESIGNATED ARTS COUNCIL AND THE LARGEST OF ITS KIND IN NEW YORK STATE. ARTSWESTCHESTER IS A TAX-EXEMPT CHARITABLE SERVICE ORGANIZATION WHICH DERIVES ITS REVENUES FROM PRIVATE AND PUBLIC SOURCES. THESE INCLUDE FEDERAL, STATE, COUNTY, CORPORATE AND INDIVIDUAL GRANTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS. ARTSWESTCHESTER CONDUCTS AN ANNUAL CAMPAIGN FOR THE ARTS AND HOLDS A SERIES OF FUND RAISING EVENTS ANNUALLY. THE COUNTY OF WESTCHESTER PROVIDES SIGNIFICANT FUNDING TO ARTSWESTCHESTER FOR BOTH DIRECT AND INDIRECT ART SERVICES THROUGHOUT WESTCHESTER COUNTY.
"ARTS AND CULTURE" INCORPORATES ALL ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES TO ARTISTS, ART ORGANIZATIONS AND AFFILIATED GROUPS, WHICH IN TURN SERVE THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE. THESE INCLUDE FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO THE ARTS COMMUNITY THROUGH GRANTS AND SUBCONTRACTS; OUTREACH, REVIEW, MONITORING AND EVALUATION OF PROGRAMS; AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE. THE CATEGORY "ARTS AND CULTURE" ALSO INCLUDES EXHIBITIONS, PERFORMANCES, WORKSHOPS, THE ANNUAL JAZZFEST, PRODUCED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CITY OF WHITE PLAINS AND THE WHITE PLAINS DOWNTOWN BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT, FOLK ARTS PROGRAMS PRESENTED AT ARTSWESTCHESTER AND THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY. ARTSWESTCHESTER IS ALSO A LEADING PROPONENT FOR PUBLIC ART AND CREATIVE PLACE-MAKING, FREQUENTLY PARTNERING WITH CORPORATIONS, MEDICAL FACILITIES, AND MUNICIPALITIES TO PLACE AND/OR COMMISSION ART FOR PUBLIC SPACES. IN 2019, THE NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY AUTHORITY ENGAGED ARTSWESTCHESTER TO ADMINISTER THEIR PUBLIC ART COMMISSION PROCESS FOR SCULPTURES, MURALS, AND BIKE RACKS FOR THE NEW GOVERNOR MARIO M. CUOMO BRIDGE. ARTSWESTCHESTER WAS ALSO ENGAGED BY WESTCHESTER COUNTY AND FRIENDS OF WESTCHESTER PARKS TO ADMINISTER THE COMMISSION PROCESS FOR AN ART INSTALLATION AT PLAYLAND PARK IN RYE. ARTSWESTCHESTER CONTINUES TO PROVIDE ROTATING EXHIBITIONS TO MEMORIAL SLOAN KETTERING CANCER CENTER IN HARRISON AND WAS CONTRACTED BY GINSBURG DEVELOPMENT TO CURATE A PERMANENT COLLECTION OF ARTWORK. IN 2019, ARTSWESTCHESTER SUPPORTED THE WORK OF MORE THAN 30 REGIONAL ARTISTS WITH COMMISSIONS, PURCHASES, OR LONG-TERM LOANS FOR PUBLIC SPACES, RESULTING IN THE INCREASE IN OUR EXPENDITURES IN THIS CATEGORY.
"EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY" INCLUDES ARTSWESTCHESTER'S EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES TO CHILDREN, SENIOR CITIZENS AND OTHERS IN SCHOOLS, DAY CARE CENTERS, MENTAL HEALTH FACILITIES AND OTHER CENTERS WHERE THE ARTS ARE A TEACHING, LEARNING AND HEALING STRATEGY. FUNDING FLUCTUATES FROM YEAR TO YEAR DEPENDING UPON SPECIFIC ALLOCATIONS FROM GOVERNMENT AGENCIES AND CORPORATIONS. WITH DIMINISHED FUNDING FOR ART PROGRAMS IN SCHOOLS, ARTSWESTCHESTER HAS EXPANDED ITS EDUCATION PROGRAMS IN THE COMMUNITY THROUGH PROGRAMS LIKE THE ARTSMOBILE AND TEEN TUESDAY/THURSDAY PROGRAMS.
"PUBLIC INFORMATION SERVICES" ARE ACTIVITIES THAT BRING ARTS INFORMATION TO THE PUBLIC ON A REGULAR BASIS. ARTSWESTCHESTER SERVES AS A COUNTY-WIDE MARKETER OF THE ARTS, PROMOTING MORE THAN 1,500 ARTS EVENTS ANNUALLY THROUGH ITS VARIOUS COMMUNICATION PROGRAMS. CENTRAL TO ARTSWESTCHESTER'S ROLE IS ITS WORK TO BUILD ARTS AUDIENCES AND EARNED INCOME FOR ARTS GROUPS THROUGH THE MARKETING AND PUBLIC INFORMATION SERVICES IT PROVIDES. A COMBINATION OF PRINT, WEB, MOBILE, RADIO AND SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGIES ARE UTILIZED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR IN ORDER TO DRIVE CONSUMERS TO WWW.ARTSWESTCHESTER.ORG. WITH ANNUAL VISITS/SESSIONS OF MORE THAN 200,000, ARTSWESTCHESTER'S WEB SITE OFFERS AN ONLINE CURATED CALENDAR OF ARTS EVENTS AS WELL AS ARTS NEWS AND RESOURCES FOR INDIVIDUAL RESIDENTS, ARTISTS AND ARTS ORGANIZATIONS. THROUGH STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE WESTCHESTER COUNTY BUSINESS JOURNAL AND WITH THE EXAMINER NEWSPAPERS, ARTSWESTCHESTER PRODUCES AND DISTRIBUTES ITS MONTHLY PRINTED NEWSPAPER - ARTSNEWS, REACHING OVER 130,000 READERS MONTHLY. ARTSNEWS IS ALSO OFFERED VIA ARTSWESTCHESTER'S WEB SITE AND A WEEKLY ARTS(E)NEWSLETTER IS SENT TO OVER 13,000 EMAIL SUBSCRIBERS TO PROMOTE THE EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS OF ARTSWESTCHESTER'S 150+ AFFILIATE ARTS GROUPS.
