Organizations Filed Purposes: LUCA'S MISSION IS TO INCREASE COLLEGE ENROLLMENT AND COMPLETION AMONG FIRST-GENERATION HISPANIC YOUTH BY DELIVERING CULTURALLY RELEVANT, BILINGUAL SUPPORT FROM COLLEGE ADMISSIONS THROUGH COMPLETION; ENSURING STUDENTS FULFILL THEIR ACADEMIC AND LIFE POTENTIAL.

LATINO U COLLEGE ACCESS (LUCA) MAKE COLLEGE DREAMS A REALITY FOR FIRST GENERATION HISPANIC STUDENTS BY HELPING THEM APPLY, ENROLL AND SUCCEED IN COLLEGE. .

THE LATINO U SCHOLARS PROGRAM PROVIDES ONE-ON-ONE MENTORING AND EXCEPTIONAL PROGRAM SUPPORT TO STUDENTS FROM JUNIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL THROUGH SENIOR YEAR. SCHOLARS RECEIVE INTENSIVE, ONE ON ONE MENTORING FROM A VOLUNTEER COLLEGE COACH, FREE SAT/ACT TEST PREP, ESSAY WRITING SUPPORT, AND FINANCIAL AID CONSULTATIONS. WE HOST NUMEROUS WORKSHOPS AND PROGRAM EVENTS THROUGH THE YEAR AND DELIVERED OVER 2,750 HOURS OF COACHING SUPPORT TO STUDENTS. 174 STUDENTS HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THE SCHOLARS PROGRAM, EXCEEDING NATIONAL HISPANIC COLLEGE ENROLLMENT AVERAGES. 93% OF LATINO U SCHOLARS ARE ENROLLED IN 4 YEAR UNIVERSITIES WITH 54% ATTENDING MOST SELECTIVE TO VERY SELECTIVE INSTITUTIONS WITH SIGNIFICANT FINANCIAL AID THAT MEETS THEIR NEEDS.

THE FIRST GEN FORWARD (FGF) PROGRAM ENSURES COLLEGE PERSISTENCE AND SUCCESS FOR OUR SCHOLARS. STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN WORKSHOPS SUPPORTING COLLEGE TRANSITION AND SUCCESS, AND CAREER READINESS THAT INCLUDE TOPICS SUCH AS NAVIGATING COLLEGE LIFE, CAMPUS DIVERSITY, NETWORKING AND INTERNSHIP SEARCH. THROUGH CORPORATE PARTNERSHIPS, STUDENTS ALSO PARTICIPATE IN CORPORATE SITE VISITS AND NETWORK WITH FIRST GEN HISPANIC PROFESSIONALS. BILINGUAL FAMILY WORKSHOPS ENSURE PARENTS HAVE THE TOOLS AND INFORMATION TO BEST SUPPORT THEIR CHILD THROUGH COLLEGE. 99% OF SCHOLARS IN THE FGF PROGRAM REMAIN ON TRACK TO GRADUATE WITHIN 4 - 5 YEARS OF COLLEGE ENROLLMENT.

LATINO U COLLEGE ACCESS HAS DELIVERED COMMUNITY INFORMATION SESSIONS TO OVER 5,000 PARENTS AND STUDENTS SINCE OUR LAUNCH IN 2013. THESE SESSIONS ARE DELIVERED IN 6 LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT SERVE A HISPANIC STUDENT POPULATION OVER 50%. DURING 2019, 576 PARENTS AND STUDENTS ATTENDED SPANISH LANGUAGE PRESENTATIONS ON THE TOPICS "PASOS A LA UNIVERSIDAD/PATHWAY TO COLLEGE", "APLICANDO A LA UNIVERSIDAD / APPLYING TO COLLEGE", AND "PAGANDO PARA LA UNIVERSIDAD / PAYING FOR COLLEGE". FAFSA BOOT CAMP SESSIONS HELPED INCREASE FAFSA COMPLETION IN PARTNER HIGH SCHOOLS. IN 2019, TRAINED VOLUNTEERS ASSISTED 555 PARENTS AND STUDENTS WITH THE COMPLETION OF THE FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID AND NY STATE TAP. 96% OF STUDENTS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED THE FAFSA APPLICATION AS A RESULT OF THESE BOOT CAMPS.
