THE MISSION OF USTA PLAYER DEVELOPMENT INCORPORATED IS TO EDUCATE AND TRAIN YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE SPORT OF TENNIS.

THE GOAL OF PLAYER DEVELOPMENT IS TO IMPLEMENT A SYSTEMATIC, PLAYER-CENTRIC APPROACH IN DEVELOPING WORLD-CLASS AMERICAN PLAYERS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PRIVATE SECTOR COACHES AND PROGRAMS. PLAYER DEVELOPMENT STRIVES TO BE THE BEST IN THE WORLD, DEVELOPING AND DEPLOYING EDUCATIONAL, TRAINING AND COACHING RESOURCES TO SERVE TEAM USA. THE PLAYER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM IS BASED AT THE USTA NATIONAL CAMPUS IN ORLANDO, FL, AND ALSO UTILIZES THE USTA TRAINING CENTER WEST - CARSON, CA, AND THE USTA TRAINING CENTER EAST - FLUSHING, NY. PLAYER DEVELOPMENT ALSO HAS ESTABLISHED A CERTIFIED REGIONAL TRAINING CENTER PROGRAM AS PART OF ITS EXPANDED EFFORTS TO DEVELOP FUTURE AMERICAN TENNIS CHAMPIONS. THE CERTIFIED REGIONAL TRAINING CENTER PROGRAM HAS EXTENDED PLAYER DEVELOPMENT'S PROGRAM REACH THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES BY WORKING WITH ACADEMIES, CLUBS AND TENNIS CENTERS THAT HAVE A PROVEN RECORD OF IDENTIFYING AND DEVELOPING YOUNG TENNIS PLAYERS. PLAYER DEVELOPMENT HAS HIRED NATIONAL COACHES WHO HAVE CONTACT WITH 10 TO 15 TOP PLAYERS IN ALL AGE GROUPS AND AN IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF ANOTHER 20 TO 30 PLAYERS. THESE COACHES PROVIDE INFORMATION, ADVICE AND ATTEND TOURNAMENTS WITH THESE PLAYERS. THE COACHES ARE REQUIRED TO BE CERTIFIED AND CONTINUE THEIR COACHING EDUCATION IN ORDER TO PROVIDE THE NECESSARY SUPPORT TO THE PLAYERS WITH WHOM THEY WORK. FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO THE PLAYERS IS AN INTEGRAL FOCUS OF THIS PROGRAM. IN 2018, PLAYER DEVELOPMENT EXCELLENCE GRANTS WERE DISTRIBUTED TO 326 PLAYERS. IN COORDINATION WITH THE NATIONAL COACHES, THE PLAYERS USE THESE GRANTS FOR TRAINING. THE FUNDS CAN BE USED IN A VARIETY OF WAYS FOR TENNIS DEVELOPMENT (E.G., ACADEMIES/COACHING). IN ADDITION, FOCUS IS PLACED ON SUPPORTING YOUNG TOURING PROS AS WELL AS DEVELOPING EXPOSURE OF YOUNG AMERICAN PLAYERS AT THE INTERNATIONAL JUNIOR AND PROFESSIONAL LEVELS. FOR PLAYERS WHO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM, EVERY EFFORT IS MADE TO PROVIDE THEM WITH RESOURCES AND SUPPORT TO FOSTER THEIR CONTINUED SUCCESS. BY THE END OF THE YEAR, 28 U.S. PLAYERS WERE RANKED IN THE TOP 100 JUNIORS, WHILE 4 MEN WERE RANKED IN THE TOP 50. THE U.S. HAD 21 PLAYERS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 18-22 RANKED IN THE TOP 200 AND 16 PLAYERS WHOM WERE 20 YEARS OLD OR YOUNGER IN THE TOP 300.
