Innovative concerts with a commitment to education, community, and diversity.

2015-16 was the second season of Maestros Jaime Laredo and Ted Sperling as principal conductors of the orchestra; dual appointments that have enhanced the orchestra's artistic leadership while expanding its reach and variety. The mainstage concert series included five full orchestra concerts, four free open rehearsals, and four pre-concert discussions with the artists, free to all ticket holders. The season included the New York premiere a newly commissioned work by highly regarded composer Christopher Theofanidis, guest soloists Dawn Upshaw, Sharon Robinson, Alon Goldstein, Ashley Brown, and guest conductor Kazem Abdullah. February's "Friends & Family" concert returned in which children are admitted free with a paid adult and Maestro Sperling offers a "guided tour" commentary during the concert, which is preceded by a children's "Instrument Petting Zoo" in the lobby.

THE ORGANIZATION'S CONTRACT CONCERTS SERVE THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THE PRESENTATION OF FREE AND LOW COST CONCERTS WHICH ATTRACT PEOPLE OF DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS AND PROVIDE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE THE JOY OF A LIVE, CLASSICAL MUSIC CONCERT.

Our EDUCATION PROGRAM SERVES OVER 2,000 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS EACH SEASON THROUGH CLASSROOM VISITS by our TEACHING ARTISTS which culminate in a full orchestra concert for students at the concert hall. Teachers are provided with curriculum materials in advance. Our ongoing intiative with the Greyston Foundation in Yonkers sends teaching artists to its pre-school facility to perform and demonstrate insturments to youngsters 3-6 years old.
