New York City Parents in Action, Inc., (NYC-PIA) a non-profit volunteer organization, is committed to the belief that effective communication, parent to parent and parent to child, is vital to the healthy development of young adults capable of making sound choices.We provide education, information and a communication network to inform parents about social and developmental issues, including substance abuse prevention. To provide parenting education, information and a communication network to help parents prepare their children and teenagers to cope with social pressures and make sound choices towards a future free of alcohol and drug abuse.
Teen Scene is our signature annual teen panel serves to educate parents on the issues from the teen point of view. We present a panel of children from all four high school grades, speaking candidly on "what's out there" for a teen growing up in the NYC independent schools.Fathers Forum our signature annual evening presents a speaker or panel on parenting topics specifically geared to and for dads.Parent Topics our seminars and school rep luncheons offer speakers on a variety of pressing issues and parental concerns.
"Parent Talks" are NYC-PIA's signature Facilitated Discussion Group meetings for parents. Each year NYC-PIA coordinates over 250 Parent Talk facilitated meetings in our participating New York City Independent Schools. Parent Talk Facilitated Discussion Groups provide an opportunity for parents in the same grade level to come together to talk about a variety of issues they face as parents. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, NYC-PIA is able to offer our team of trained facilitators FREE OF CHARGE.
