AKRON CHILDRENS MUSEUM MISSION IS TO BE A GATHERING PLACE FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES, WHERE PLAY INSPIRES EXPLORATION, DISCOVERY, AND PROBLEM SOLVING.
AKRON CHILDRENS MUSEUM WAS CONCEIVED BY A GROUP OF AKRON NATIVES AND YOUNG PROFESSIONALS WITH THE COLLECTIVE VISION TO CREATE A KID-FOCUSED, FAMILY PLAY SPACE WHERE YOUNG MINDS COULD CREATE, LEARN, AND HAVE FUN THROUGH INSPIRED, EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES. AFTER EXTENSIVE MARKET RESEARCH, FUNDRAISING, AND A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL 10-WEEK PILOT PROJECT, ACM OPENED PERMANENTLY ON NOVEMBER 25, 2016. THE MUSEUM PRESENTS EXHIBITS AND PROGRAMMING THAT INSPIRES EXPLORATION, DISCOVERY AND PROBLEM SOLVING WHILE CONNECTING FAMILIES, INDIVIDUALS, AND ORGANIZATIONS IN OUR COMMUNITY. AFFORDABLE AND ACCESSIBLE TO ALL, THE MUSEUM CREATES EXPERIENCES AND EVENTS THAT MAKE OUR COUNTY AND REGION A VIBRANT PLACE TO LIVE AND VISIT. ACM IS THANKFUL FOR OUR CHAMPIONS WHO SUPPORTED OUR VISION TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES THAT PROMOTE LIFELONG LEARNING THROUGH THE POWER OF CREATIVITY AND INFORMAL PLAY.
THE AKRON CHILDREN'S MUSEUM CELEBRATED ITS THIRD ANNIVERSARY IN 2019, SURPASSING 143,000 MUSEUM VISITORS. THE MUSEUM PRESENTS EXHIBITS AND PROGRAMMING THAT INSPIRES EXPLORATION, DISCOVERY AND PROBLEM SOLVING WHILE CONNECTING FAMILIES, INDIVIDUALS, AND ORGANIZATIONS IN OUR COMMUNITY. WE ADDED A NEW EXHIBIT FEATURE, THE MONSTER MISSION COURSE. WE CONTINUED TO EXPAND PARTNERSHIPS TO ENSURE WELL-ROUNDED PROGRAMMING BASED ON OUR FOUR EDUCATIONAL PILLARS: STEM, HEALTH & WELLNESS, CIVIC & COMMUNITY, AND ARTS & CULTURE. IN 2019 WE LAUNCHED A CAPITAL CAMPAIGN, RAISING APPROXIMATELY HALF OF OUR 500,000 GOAL TO DATE. THESE FUNDS WILL ALLOW US TO ADD AN ADDITIONAL 3,000 SQUARE FEET OF SPACE, UPDATE EXHIBITS AND CREATE NEW EXPERIENCES FOR OUR VISITORS. THE MUSEUM IS APPROACHING 180,000 VISITORS AND CONTINUES TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE VIBRANCY IN DOWNTOWN AKRON.
