Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MALTZ MUSEUM OF JEWISH HERITAGE INTRODUCES VISITORS TO THE BEAUTY AND DIVERSITY OF THAT HERITAGE IN THE CONTEXT OF THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE. IT PROMOTES AN UNDERSTANDING OF JEWISH HISTORY, RELIGION & CULTURE AND BUILDS BRIDGES OF APPRECIATION, TOLERANCE & UNDERSTANDING.

THE MALTZ MUSEUM OF JEWISH HERITAGE IS AN AMERICAN STORY OF DIVERSITY AND TOLERANCE.

CORE COLLECTION - THE MUSEUM FEATURES TWO CORE EXHIBITIONS. AN AMERICAN STORY CHRONICLES THE IMMIGRANT EXPERIENCE, DEVELOPMENT OF CLEVELAND, CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT AND THE HOLOCAUST. THE TEMPLE-TIFERETH ISRAEL GALLERY DISPLAYS THE NATIONALLY RENOWNED COLLECTION OF JUDAICA FROM ITS NAMESAKE SYNAGOGUE. EACH YEAR AN AVERAGE OF 8,500 STUDENTS TOUR THE MUSEUM'S CORE COLLECTIONS, THE CONTENT OF WHICH ALIGNS WITH OHIO LEARNING STANDARDS IN THE AREAS OF SOCIAL STUDIES AND LANGUAGE ARTS. TOPICS INCLUDE IMMIGRATION AND ASSIMILATION, THE HOLOCAUST AND CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT, CLEVELAND HISTORY, AND JEWISH FAITH AND TRADITIONS. MORE THAN 120,000 STUDENTS HAVE EXPERIENCED THESE TOURS, 40% OF WHOM RECEIVED FREE TRANSPORTATION BASED ON NEED WITHIN THEIR SCHOOL DISTRICT. STUDENTS IN THE CLEVELAND METROPOLITAN SCHOOL DISTRICT ALSO RECEIVE FREE ADMISSION, ENSURING THAT COST IS NEVER A BARRIER TO EXPERIENCING THE MUSEUM.

SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS - THE MUSEUM HAS PRESENTED 34 SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS SINCE ITS INCEPTION, TREATING EACH AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO CONNECT HISTORICAL THEMES WITH CURRENT EVENTS. SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS HAVE COVERED TOPICS VARYING FROM VIOLINS THAT SURVIVED THE HOLOCAUST, COMIC SUPERHEROES, AND PHOTOGRAPHERS OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT. IN 2019-2020, THE MUSEUM HAD THREE EXHIBITIONS TRAVELING TO OTHER INSTITUTIONS: OPERATION FINALE: THE CAPTURE & TRIAL OF ADOLF EICHMANN; THIS LIGHT OF OUR: ACTIVIST PHOTOGRAPHERS OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT; AND ISRAEL: THEN & NOW.

STOP THE HATE - STOP THE HATE: YOUTH SPEAK OUT CELEBRATED ITS TWELFTH YEAR WITH A LIVESTREAMED AWARDS CEREMONY THAT REACHED OVER 50,000 VIEWERS. A TOTAL OF 1570 6TH-12TH GRADERS FROM ASHTABULA, CUYAHOGA, GEAUGA, LAKE, LORAIN, MAHONING, MEDINA, PORTAGE, STARK, SUMMIT, TRUMBULL AND WAYNE COUNTIES SUBMITTED 500-WORD ESSAYS DESCRIBING THEIR EXPERIENCES WITH BULLYING AND DISCRIMINATION AND HOW THEY HAVE TAKEN ACTION AS UPSTANDERS. STOP THE HATE: YOUTH SING OUT IS CONDUCTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ROOTS OF AMERICAN MUSIC (ROAM). MORE THAN 1,000 STUDENTS FROM CLEVELAND METROPOLITAN SCHOOLS, EAST CLEVELAND CITY SCHOOLS, LAKEWOOD CITY SCHOOLS, CLEVELAND HEIGHTS-UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS AND LORAIN COUNTY PARTICIPATED. TO KICK OFF THE PROGRAM, EACH CLASS TAKES A "STOP THE HATE" TOUR AT THE MUSEUM. THIS HOUR-LONG TOUR ILLUSTRATES HOW RACISM, ETHNOCENTRISM AND ANTI-SEMITISM HAVE PLAGUED AMERICA AND THE WORLD. IN FOUR SUBSEQUENT SESSIONS OF INTENSIVE MUSIC AND ANTI-BIAS EDUCATION LED BY ROAM TEACHING ARTISTS, EACH CLASS COMPOSES AN ORIGINAL SONG OR SPOKEN WORD PIECE. THE FIVE-DAY PROJECT CULMINATES IN A PERFORMANCE JURIED BY AREA ARTS PROFESSIONALS AT THE ROCK HALL.
