Organizations Filed Purposes: THE WOOD COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY IS A COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION THAT MAKES CONNECTIONS BETWEEN OUR PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE BY CAPTURING STORIES AND CULTIVATING MEMORIES OF WOOD COUNTY, OHIO AND THE COUNTY HOME.

OPERATION OF 27,000 SQ. FT. MUSEUM, HERB GARDEN, NATURE TRAILS AND NUMEROUS POINTS OF OUTDOOR INTEREST, ON A 50-ACRE SITE OWNED BY WOOD COUNTY. NEW EVENTS/EXHIBITS: 1) THE TRAVELING EXHIBIT, "JACOB A RIIS: HOW THE OTHER HALF LIVES" WAS DISPLAYED AT THE MUSEUM. RIIS DOCUMENTED THE LIVING CONDITIONS OF NEW YORK'S POOR IMMIGRANTS AND LABORERS IN "THE GUILDED AGE" IN CONTRAST TO MILLIONAIRES SUCH AS CARNEGIE AND ROCKERFELLER. THE FEATURED EXHIBIT, "FOR COMFORT AND CONVENIENCE: PUBLIC CHARITY IN OHIO BY WAY OF THE POOR FARM" DEPICTED THE HISTORY OF OHIO'S POOR FARM SYSTEM AND INCLUDED MODERN PHOTOGRAPHS BY JEFFERY HALL OF ALL 88 OHIO COUNTY POOR FARM SITES. THE EXHIBIT WON THE OHIO LOCAL HISTORY ALLIANCE OUTREACH AWARD AND THE OHIO STATE HISTORIC PRESERVATION AWARD FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION AND AWARENESS. THE EXHIBIT WAS ALSO THE FEATURE OF NATIONAL, REGIONAL AND LOCAL MEDIA OUTLETS. THE EXHIBIT "THE RETURN TO NORMALCY: A LIFE OF LEISURE IN WOOD COUNTY, 1920 - 1939" ENDED DURING EARLY 2019. . 2) THE CENTER COMPLETED A VARIETY OF CAPITAL PROJECTS INCLUDING CHIMNEY AND BRICK REPAIR TO THE POWER HOUSE, REPAIRS TO MULTIPLE BUILDINGS, REPAVING THE VISITOR PARKING LOT, HANDICAP LIGHTING AND AUDIO VIDEO SYSTEM IN THE MEETING ROOM. IN APRIL, THE CENTER HONORED THOSE BURIED IN THE PAUPERS' CEMETERY WITH A MONUMENT NAMING 252 CONFIRMED BURIALS. PAYMENTS ARE STILL BEING MADE ON THE ACCESSIBILITY LOAN. . 3) THE CENTER CONTINUED TO OFFER PUBLIC PROGRAMS INCLUDING A MONTHLY TEA SERIES, DEMONSTRATION DAYS, WOOD COUNTY LIVING HISTORY DAY, GERMAN-AMERICAN DAY COMMEMORATING THE END OF WWI AND OCTOBER FRIDAY NIGHT FOLKLORE TRICK, TREAT AND TOUR. IN DECEMBER THE 150TH BIRTHDAY GALA WAS HOSTED. MORE THAN 14,800 PEOPLE WERE SERVED BY THE MUSEUM. THIS FIGURE INCLUDES MANY EDUCATIONAL AND TOURS PROGRAMS, WHICH WERE CONDUCTED FOR BOTH ADULT GROUPS AND SCHOOL GROUPS. THE COMBINED TOURS AND PROGRAMS SERVED OVER 4,500 STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND ADULTS IN OFF-SITE PROGRAMS/TALKS. VISITOS CONTINUE TO BE FROM OTHER STATES AND COUNTRIES. MORE THAN 300 VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED TO ALL ASPECTS OF THE MUSEUM'S FUNCTIONS, DONATING OVER 2,900 HOURS OF SERVICE. VOLUNTEERS WERE UTILIZED AS FRONT DESK GREETERS AND DOCENTS/TOUR GUIDES, IN ADDITION TO ASSISTANCE WITH NEWSLETTER MAILINGS, EDUCATIONAL AND PUBLIC SERVICE EVENTS AND PLANNING COMMITTEES.

PUBLICATION OF OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER, "THE BLACK SWAMP CHANTICLEER" IN PRINT AND ONLINE, PRODUCED QUARTERLY. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING UPCOMING ACTIVITIES AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS IS ALSO AVAILABLE ONLINE. THE MAILING LIST EXCEEDS 600, ONLINE ACCESS MAKES THIS AVAILABLE TO THOUSANDS, AND THERE ARE OVER 2600 FACEBOOK FOLLOWERS. THE WEBSITE HAD OVER 12,500 PAGE VIEWS. TWITTER FOLLOWERS INCREASED BY 60 TO OVER 200 AND INSTAGRAM FOLLOWERS INCREASED BY 100 TO 2013. TRIP ADVISOR NOW LISTS VISITING THE HISTORICAL MUSEUM AS THE NUMBER 2 PLACE TO VISIT AND EXPLORE IN BOWLING GREEN.
