To serve the emergency needs of residents of the Canal Winchester Local School District
Senior Transportation - Daily transportation is provided to all senior citizens age 60 & over living in the Canal Winchester School District. Medical trips are priority with non-medical transportation provided when time and schedule permits. Group/Social Transportation: Weekly transportation is available for group grocery shopping and visits to the Food Pantry. Social trips are coordinated twice each month in an effort to keep senior citizens active and socially engaged. In FY20 we provided 3,576 one way trips and drive 27,996 miles.
Community Food Pantry - Choice Pantry Project - During FY20 5,674 clients were served providing a full service pantry with 3 distribution days each week. Each person in the family is provided 30 meals if they utilize their twice a month visit. During this time 78,662 meals were provided and 92,882.5 pounds of food was distributed. Additionally, the Choice Pantry also offers "Market Day" which is an initiative focused on the needs of senior citizens. Each Thursday we offer special accommodations to our senior citizens living in a local low income housing development. Feeding our Future - FOF is a hunger initiative specific to students in the Canal Winchester School District who are income-eligible to participate in the free breakfast/lunch program. Each week, bags of food are provided containing one meal for each day that the students will not have the daily breakfast/lunch available to them. During the 2019/2020 school year, we provided 4,590 meals to students.
Community Outreach - Adopt A Family Project that provides Christmas assistance to individuals and families who struggle during the holiday season. "Adopted" children receive clothes, shoes and a few "wishes" from their list to Santa. Adults are offered gift cards (when available) for groceries and/or food. Good, used coats with hats and mittens are available to all members of the household and food baskets are given to each family. The 2019 Adopt a Family Project provided assistance to 294 people of which 208 were children. Senior Outreach Project - Congregate meal - each week, we partner with the City of Canal Winchester to provide a congregate meal for as many as 100 senior citizens. This Tuesday gathering provides a nutritious meal as well as social opportunities for the elderly. Seniors to Senior - This initiative connects high school students with the elderly through services such as Community Care Day in May and the annual "senior" prom which is in May as well. Tools for Schools Project: New book bags filled with grade appropriate school supplies are made available at the beginning of each academic year to students who are in need. In the 2019/2020 school year we provided 165 book bags filled with school supplies to Canal Winchester and Bloom Carroll students in need.
