JRC HOME REPAIR, FORMERLY JR COLEMAN COMMUNITY RENOVATION CORPORATION, PROVIDES SERVICES THAT CONTRIBUTE TO THE STABILITY OF OWNER-OCCUPIED HOMES IN STARK, SUMMIT, WAYNE AND PORTAGE COUNTIES. PRIMARILY SENIOR CITIZENS WHO ARE LOW-INCOME HOMEOWNERS RECEIVE HELP WITH HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE RENOVATIONS AND HOME REPAIRS WHERE DETERIORATING CONDITIONS THREATEN THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF THE RESIDENTS. OUR OBJECTIVE IS TO ENABLE HOMEOWNERS TO CONTINUE TO RESIDE IN THEIR HOMES. DURING FY 2015, 100 RENOVATIONS AND REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED. THIS WORK INCLUDES MINOR PLUMBING REPAIRS, CEILING AND FLOOR REPLACEMENT, INSTALLATION OF RAMPS, BATHROOM MODIFICATIONS TO INSTALL SHOWER STALLS WITH TRANSFER SEATING, HAND HELD SHOWER HEADS AND GRAB BARS, WIDENING OF DOORWAYS AND ENTRIES TO ACCOMMODATE WALKERS OR WHEELCHAIRS, AND INSTALLATION OF INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR RAILINGS AS WELL AS A VARIETY OF SMALLER HOUSEHOLD REPAIRS. THESE ACCESSIBILITY MODIFICATIONS ARE DESIGNED TO PERMIT ELDERLY AND DISABLED HOMEOWNERS TO STAY IN OR RETURN AFTER REHABILITATION TO THEIR OWN HOMES PREVENTING PREMATURE AND COSTLY NURSING HOME PLACEMENT.

DURING FISCAL YEAR 2015 OVER 1,000 RESIDENTS AND BUSINESS OWNERS ENGAGED IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT IN THE PROJECT AREA. ENGAGEMENT OCCURRED THROUGH SEVERAL INITIATIVES HEADED BY STARKFRESH, A PROGRAM OF JRC. THESE INCLUDED THE CORRIDOR FARMERS' MARKET, AN URBAN TEACHING FARM, AND A MOBILE MARKET PROVIDING FRESH FOOD TO AREAS WHERE RESDIENTS MAY HAVE DIFFICULTY GETTING OUT OF THEIR HOMES. STARKFRESH ENDEAVORS TO INCREASE PEOPLE'S ACCESS TO, AND CONSUMPTION OF, FRESH HEALTHY, LOCALLY SOURCED FOODS, AND HAS GENERATED THE INTEREST FOR A HEALTHIER COMMUNITY.
