INTERSCHOLASTIC EQUESTRIAN ASSOCIATION, INC (IEA) IS AN OHIO NOT-FOR-PROFIT ESTABLISHED IN 2006. IEA IS ORGANIZED TO PROMOTE AND EXPAND ACCESS TO QUALITY TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL EQUESTRIAN COMPETITION AND INSTRUCTION AVAILABLE TO MIDDLE AND SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS. ITS PURPOSE SHALL BE TO SET STANDARDS FOR COMPETITION; TO PROVIDE INFORMATION CONCERNING THE CREATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF EQUESTRIAN SPORT PROGRAMS; TO PROMOTE THE COMMON INTERESTS OF SAFE RIDING INSTRUCTION; AND TO EDUCATE ON MATTERS RELATED TO HORSEMANSHIP AT THE PRE-COLLEGIATE LEVEL. IEA SERVES RIDERS WHO ARE 18 AND UNDER BY OFFERING FINANCIAL AND GRANT PROGRAMS FOR EQUINE ATHLETICS.
: INTERSCHOLASTIC EQUESTRIAN ASSOCIATION AIMS TO DEVELOP UNDERSTANDING, APPRECIATION, AND PARTICIPATION IN EQUESTRIAN SPORTS THROUGH ORGANIZED STUDENT COMPETITIONS AND ADDITIONAL EQUINE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES. DURING FISCAL YEAR 19-20, OUR ORGANIZATION ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED 947 SHOWS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. HOWEVER, ONLY 875 SHOWS WERE ABLE TO RUN BECAUSE OF COVID-19 RELATED CANCELLATIONS. NEVERTHELESS, NEARLY 14,000 MEMBERS WERE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN EQUESTRIAN COMPETITIONS-MANY OF WHOM WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS EQUINE SPORT WITHOUT THE AFFORDABLE, DRAW-BASED FORMAT THAT OUR ORGANIZATION PROVIDES.
THE IEA ADDED SIGNIFICANT PROGRAMS IN 19.20. THE DRESSAGE PROGRAM THAT HAD BEEN IN PLACE FOR SEVERAL YEARS AS A "PILOT" OFFERING, WAS FULLY INCORPORATED INTO THE IEA OFFERINGS; THEREBY EXPANDING US TO THREE OFFERED RIDING DISCIPLINES OF HUNT SEAT, WESTERN AND DRESSAGE. THERE WERE 429 RIDER MEMBERS IN THE NEW DRESSAGE OFFERING. IEA ALSO ADDED A NEW PILOT PROGRAM FOR "INTRO RIDERS" WHICH ALLOWED RIDERS IN GRADES 4 & 5 TO NOW PARTICIPATE AS RIDER-MEMBERS WITHIN THE IEA. IN ITS INITIAL YEAR OF THIS OFFERING, THERE WERE 873 INTRO RIDERS WHO PARTICIPATED. THE IEA CONTINUES TO BE A SIGNIFICANT, INTRODUCTORY PROGRAM TO EQUESTRIAN PARTICIPATION, AND IS A MAJOR CONTRIBUTOR TO THE GROWTH AND SUSTAINABILITY OF EQUINE SPORTS.
