Organizations Filed Purposes:
To reduce the Incidence of HIV/AIDS in Rural Kenya and improve the lives of those infected by HIV/AIDS.
SOTENI Kenya Soteni, Inc. provides resources to build the capacity of both the staff of SOTENI Kenya and the staff and local leaders of the three SOTENI Villages of Hope. As a major indicator of such activity building, SOTENI staff on the ground in Kenya either managed or obtained project grants and contributions from multiple funders during this reporting period. Soteni, Inc. continued its Clean Water Project funded by PG Children s Safe Drinking Water Program which enables in-home purification of water for safe consumption for about 2,500 people living with HIV/AIDS and their families by extension. PG Children s Safe Drinking Water program began funding this SOTENI project in 2010. Soteni, Inc. also strengthened support of the health clinic in SOTENI Village of Hope Mbakalo which provides essential medical services including a laboratory, child wellness services, deliveries of newborns, family planning services, and HIV testing in a rural part of Western Kenya.
Sponsorship Soteni International continues its Sponsorship Program by supporting 9 Orphans and vulnerable children in their quest for education. The support typically includes tuition, fees, uniforms, clothing, health care, food and psychosocial support. Students are matched up with sponsors from outside of Kenya whose annual sponsorship fees help to cover these expenses. The program promotes cultural interchanges, with sponsors receiving letters, updates, and photos from Soteni and the students.
Mary Kibor Community Empowerment Center - Several years ago, a family in Cincinnati, Ohio funded the building of a community center comprising of office space, meeting rooms, library, and computer lab. Funds are donated to this center and comprise support of this establishment in following basic areas General Support of the Center, Support of the Library, Support of the Computer Lab, Support of Sanitary Facility and Guard House, Support of Meeting Rooms, and Support of Solar Power System.
