CENTER FOR ARTS-INSPIRED LEARNING IGNITES STUDENT LEARNING, CREATIVITY, AND SUCCESS THROUGH THE ARTS BY CONNECTING EDUCATORS, PROFESSIONAL TEACHING ARTISTS, AND COMMUNITIES TO TRANSFORM LIVES AND EDUCATION.
TO IGNITE STUDENT LEARNING, CREATIVITY, & SUCCESS THROUGH THE ARTS
SCHOOL PROGRAMS AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH: ANNUALLY, CAL REACHES MORE THAN 110,000 PRE-K THROUGH GRADE 12 YOUTH IN NE OHIO THROUGH MORE THAN 5,500 ARTS EDUCATION PROGRAMS. CAL'S PROGRAMS ENHANCE LEARNING IN THE CORE SUBJECTS OF MATH, SCIENCE, ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS, AND SOCIAL STUDIES WHILE INCREASING KNOWLEDGE OF THE ARTS. WITH FOCUSED EFFORTS, CAL HAS BEEN IMPROVING ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT FOR ALL YOUTH AND ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE IN UNDER-RESOURCED SCHOOL DISTRICTS. SINCE MOVING TO UNIVERSITY CIRCLE IN 2017, CAL HAS BEEN INTENTIONAL IN DEEPENING OUR IMPACT IN HIGH POVERTY NEIGHBORHOODS IN CLEVELAND INCLUDING GLENVILLE AND HOUGH. IN ADDITION TO IN-SCHOOL PROGRAMS, CAL TEACHING ARTISTS WORKED IN OUT-OF-SCHOOL SETTINGS SUCH AS STUDIO 105@THE GLENVILLE ARTS CAMPUS AND CLEVELAND RECREATION CENTERS. MOST SIGNIFICANTLY, CAL IMPLEMENTED PLAY IT FORWARD! CLEVELAND, A MUSIC PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES FREE INSTRUMENTS AND LESSONS FOR GRADES 6 TO 12 YOUTH IN THE CITY OF CLEVELAND REACHING CLOSE TO 65 STUDENTS WITH FREE TWICE WEEKLY LESSONS AND VIOLINS, DRUMS, AND GUITARS. DURING THE EARLY MONTHS OF THE 2020 GLOBAL PANDEMIC, CAL BEGAN PRESENTING MUSIC, DANCE, THEATER, LITERARY ARTS, VISUAL ARTS AND DIGITAL ARTS PROGRAMS IN VIRTUAL FORMATS FOR YOUTH AND FAMILIES. CHILDEN WERE ABLE TO STAY ENGAGED IN THEIR LEARNING THROUGH THE INTEGRATION OF ART INTO DAILY ONLINE SCHOOL LESSONS. CAL INITIALLY PROVIDED THESE OFFERINGS FREE TO THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY. BY CONNECTING PROFESSIONAL TEACHING ARTISTS IN MUSIC, DANCE, THEATER, LITERARY ARTS, DIGITAL ARTS AND VISUAL ARTS WITH SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, CAL ENSURES THAT TODAY'S YOUNG PEOPLE ARE PREPARED TO SUCCEED IN THE 21ST CENTURY.CAL ALSO PREPARES PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS TO TEACH IN SCHOOLS, OUT OF SCHOOL TIME PROGRAMS, AND COMMUNITY VENUES. ARTISTS LEARN ARTS INTEGRATION, LESSON PLANNING, CHILD DEVELOPMENT, CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT, AND OTHER SKILLS THAT ENABLE THEM TO ASSIST IN TEACHING THE CORE CURRICULA AND SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SKILLS TO RAISE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND SUCCESS.
ARTWORKS:FOUNDED IN 2005, ARTWORKS IS A YEAR-ROUND PAID ARTS-BASED COLLEGE AND CAREER-READINESS PROGRAM FOR NE OHIO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. 75% - 80% OF ARTWORKS TEENS LIVE IN THE CITY OF CLEVELAND IN COMMUNITIES THAT ARE UNDERSERVED, WITH 80% AFRICAN AMERICAN, HISPANIC, OR ASIAN. EACH YEAR MORE THAN 120 TEENS ARE INSPIRED TO SUCCEED WHILE PARTICIPATING IN ARTWORKS, LEARNING SKILLS IN THE ARTS IN AN APPRENTICESHIP FORMAT WHILE GAINING KNOWLEDGE OF FINANCIAL LITERACY, COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS, FINANCIAL AID, NETWORKING SKILLS, AND TEAMWORK. 92% REPORT GRADUATING ON-TIME FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND CONTINUING THEIR EDUCATION IN COLLEGE, THE MILITARY, ETC. SINCE 2005, NEARLY 3,000 TEENS HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED ARTWORKS.
