APPROXIMATELY 275 CHILDREN AND THEIR PARENTS ARE SERVED IN CLEVELAND HEIGHTS-UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, EAST CLEVELAND, MAPLE HEIGHTS, WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS AND FOUR NEIGHBORHOODS IN THE CITY OF CLEVELAND. ASSESSMENT DATA COMPILED AND ANALYZED BY CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY DEMONSTRATES THAT SPARK CHILDREN SCORE SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER IN THE KINDERGARTEN READING ASSESSMENT TOOL (KRA), WHEN COMPARED TO THEIR NON-SPARK PEERS.
FAMILY SCHOOL CONNECTION PROVIDES SCHOOL-BASED FAMILY LITERACY AND SUPPORT SERVICES TO PARENTS AND THEIR KINDERGARTEN CHILDREN WHO ARE AT RISK FOR NOT READING AT GRADE LEVEL. SERVICES INCLUDE FAMILY LITERACY WORKSHOPS, KINDERGARTEN TRANSITION ACTIVITIES FOR PARENTS AND CHILDREN, CLASSROOM SUPPORT AND HOME TUTORING. APPROXIMATELY 304 CHILDREN AND THEIR PARENTS ARE SERVED IN THE CLEVELAND HEIGHTS-UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS SCHOOL DISTRICT AND THE CLEVELAND METROPOLITAN SCHOOL DISTRICT. CHILDREN GAIN THE NECESSARY SKILLS TO READ AT THE EXPECTED GRADE LEVEL AND PARENTS LEARN HOW TO SUPPORT THEIR CHILD'S DEVELOPMENT.
FAMILY CONNECTIONS LEASES A FACILITY OWNED BY THE CITY OF SHAKER HEIGHTS AND DESIGNED AS AN EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY CENTER. FAMILY CONNECTIONS SUBLEASES SPACE TO NONPROFIT PROVIDERS OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION. THE LEASING OF SPACE FURTHERS THE EXEMPT PURPOSE OF FAMILY CONNECTIONS BY CREATING A COLLABORATIVE EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER AMONG THE TENANTS. THE TENANT ORGANIZATIONS MEET REGULARLY TO EXCHANGE INFORMATION AND TO ENSURE THAT THE FACILITY OPERATIONS MEET THE NEEDS OF THE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES.
