Organizations Filed Purposes:
A non-profit art center dedicated to the production and preservation of hand papermaking and the art of the book. The Morgan pursues its educational and charitable purposes by conducting workshop, exhibitions and tours.
In the starting months of 2020, the Morgan was looking forward to growing our workshop offerings and community arts outreach programs from 2019. However, due to the the pandemic the Morgan closed to the public for a majority of the 2020. Before closing to the public in mid-March, the Morgan provided six workshops and two educational programs for students attending grade schools and universities. In the months following the closing , staff and instructors dedicated their time and efforts to creating virtual educational content and online workshops to keep information from the Morgan accessible to the community. In September we began a reopening on a linited basis concentrating on providing virtual programs. This as allowed for nationwide outreach and accessibility and in the winter of 2020 we l welcome more instructors from around the country to teach workshops virtually. Although the pandemic require that we cancel most of the scheduled program workshops, group workshops, open studio however, the Morgan was still able to offer 6 workshops, (5 in-person during the regular winter 2020 season (Jan-beginning of March) and 1 virtual in December) in hand papermaking, print, book and paper arts to the public. Workshops were attended by over 48 individuals nation-wide.
With newly implemented cleaning and social distancing procedures, the gallery at the Morgan reopened in October 2020 with the eighth annual and fourth National Juried Exhibition, showing 63 works by 54 artists from around the country. The gallery continued to be open by appointment with a virtual gallery on the Morgan website to assure proper safety is kept. In-person events are being re-invented as well our annual Kozo Harvest took place outdoors in November 2020 over two weeks to reduce crowd sizes. The exhibition furthered the Morgans mission to bring the art of handmade paper, book and print to the public to educate, provide cultural diversity and enrichment to the local community
