Organizations Filed Purposes:
OCBC promotes the use of bicycles in greater Cleveland and engages area youth and adults in cycling activities that further independence, resourcefulness and good health by offering bike repair education, Earn A Bike programs, and providing dependable, affordable used bikes and accessories.
Direct Bicycle Education: provided a total of 152 hours of educational activities, which included bicycle tune up classes; Learn to Ride classes for both adults and children; supporting off-site bike build assistance for children's bikes being donated to Cleveland schools; and educational service assessments for bicyclists needing help diagnosing problems with their bikes.
Bicycle Repair & Recycling: refurbished and sold 220 donated, used bicycles with guidance on suitability (road vs mountain vs cruiser), proper fitting, Bike Basics maintenance education and free How we Roll classes (through advocacy partner Bike Cleveland). This serves the dual purpose of diverting bicycles away from landfill while increasing bicycle ownership and use.
Volunteering & Community Support: provides safe and reliable bicycles and/or repairs for those who lack financial resources. This is accomplished through individuals volunteering to earn credits that can be used in exchange for bicycles, parts, tools & accessories; and through our Pay What You Can program which redirects donations to those with a demonstrated need. Although significantly reduced by Covid restrictions, we helped 91 individuals to earn $13,580 in credits that could be exchanged for used bicycles, parts, tools & accessories.
