Organizations Filed Purposes: OPEN DOORS ACADEMY IS A YOUTH DEVELOPMENT MODEL COMMITTED TO BREAKING THE CYCLE OF MULTI-GENERATIONAL POVERTY. WE WORK TO PROTECT, INSPIRE, NURTURE AND CHALLENGE ADOLESCENTS TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL.

OPEN DOORS ACADEMY (ODA) PROVIDES OUT-OF-SCHOOL TIME (OST) ENRICHMENT TO YOUTH LIVING ACROSS GREATER CLEVELAND. ODA WORKS TO PROTECT, INSPIRE, NURTURE, AND CHALLENGE YOUTH TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL. TO ACCOMPLISH THIS MISSION, THE ODA TEAM ENGAGES YOUTH AND THEIR FAMILIES, BUILDS PARTNERSHIPS WITHIN THE COMMUNITY, PROVIDES A CONTINUUM OF PROGRAMMING, AND FORGES TRUSTED RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE KIDS THAT IT SERVES. IN THE 2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR, ODA'S PROGRAM REACHED 426 KIDS, 366 FAMILIES, AND 1,524 FAMILY MEMBERS AT 14 ODA PROGRAM SITES. WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS WORK WITHOUT THE PARTNERSHIP OF SERVING 12 SCHOOLS ACROSS FOUR SCHOOL DISTRICTS, 16 COMMUNITY PARTNERS, 19 SUMMER CAMP PARTNERS, AND TWO RESEARCH PARTNERS.DURING THE 2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR, ODA ADVANCED ITS MISSION BY EVOLVING EXISTING PROGRAM MODELS AND IMPLEMENTING NEW PROGRAMS TO BETTER SERVE OUR NETWORK OF KIDS, YOUNG ADULTS, AND FAMILIES. TWO CHANGES AND PROGRAMS WORTH NOTING INCLUDE:THE ODA POSTSECONDARY PROGRAM: ODA SCHOLARS WHO GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL OFTEN NEED SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE FROM TRUSTED MENTORS DURING POSTSECONDARY STUDIES AND/OR TRAINING. TO MEET THIS NEED, ODA IMPLEMENTED A POSTSECONDARY PROGRAM, WHICH INCLUDES A POSTSECONDARY MANAGER AND TWO POSTSECONDARY SUCCESS COUNSELORS. THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUILDING AN ODA ALUMNI DATABASE, COACHING HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARS ON CAREER AND COLLEGE READINESS, AND OTHERWISE CONNECTING WITH ODA ALUMNI PURSUING POSTSECONDARY DEGREES OR CERTIFICATIONS TO ASSESS THEIR NEEDS AND HELP CONNECT THEM WITH RESOURCES AS WARRANTED.ODA'S CENTER FOR OUT-OF-SCHOOL ADVANCEMENT: THE 2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR WAS THE FIRST FULL YEAR OF OPERATION FOR ODA'S CENTER FOR OUT-OF-SCHOOL ADVANCEMENT. DURING THAT TIME, COSA HOSTED 15 TRAININGS ACROSS OHIO, OR THREE TRAININGS IN EACH OF THE FIVE REGIONS OF THE STATE. BASED ON SURVEYS AND EVALUATIONS USED AT THOSE TRAININGS, 326 OF 362 (90%) OF PARTICIPANTS IDENTIFIED UP TO THREE KEY LEARNING TOOLS THAT THEY COULD TAKE BACK AND APPLY TO THEIR OWN PROGRAMS. THE COSA TEAM ALSO PROVIDED AN AVERAGE OF 2.4 IN-PERSON CONSULTATIONS WITH NEW PROGRAM MANAGERS. DURING SEPTEMBER 2019, COSA HOSTED A TWO-DAY TRAINING FOR DIRECT-SERVICE PROVIDERS IN NORTHEAST OHIO. APPROXIMATELY 100 OST PROFESSIONALS ATTENDED THIS INAUGURAL EVENT.
