The work of SCFC continues to focus on ending homelessness in Cuyahoga County. Since the first Housing First project opened in 2006, Cuyahoga County has seen a 75% decrease in the rate of homelessness, and announced in 2017 that it expects to end chronic homelessness by the end of 2020. In 2014, the Foundation convened a new initiative, A Place 4 Me, to coordinate a community response for preventing and ending homelessness among youth and young adults. SCFC is the lead convener of the Cleveland Central Promise Neighborhood which is a collective impact initiative that works to transform the educational and developmental outcomes of children and families in the Central Neighborhood. Promise develops an environment and culture where families feel supported so their children can achieve academic, and ultimately, career success. Promise operates with Central residents at the forefront, believing they are the ones who have the biggest impact in leading their neighborhood. Promise engages volunteers by providing leadership training, resource information, and tools to support them in connecting and sharing with their neighbors those opportunities that provide quality learning for their children. Promise also partners with the nonprofits, early childhood care providers, schools, public housing, libraries, and businesses that provide direct resources to families to ensure their effectiveness through communication and collaboration. It also seeks to identify gaps that can be filled by these partners or others.
