HOUSING PROGRAM: WCDC MAINTAINS A FULL TIME COMMERCIAL/HOUSING STABILIZATION STAFF PERSON THAT WORKS WITH THE RESIDENTS AND BUSINESS OWNERS TO ADDRESS CODE ENFORCEMENT. WCDC INVESTIGATES COMPLAINTS AND WORKS WITH OWNERS, TENANTS, LANDLORDS TO ACHIEVE CODE COMPLIANCE AND REFERRAL TO RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL REPAIR GRANTS AND LOANS. WHERE APPLICABLE AND IN CASES WHERE THERE IS NO RESOLUTION, WCDC SHARES CASE INFORMATION WITH THE CITY OF CLEVELAND AND OR CLEVELAND MUNICIPAL HOUSING COURT FOR ENFORCEMENT. 1. COURT COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM; THE OVERALL APPEARANCE OF WCDC'S (4) COMMERCIAL CORRIDORS IS IMPORTANT. THE VIABILITY OF A COMMUNITY IS JUDGED IN LARGE PART BY HOW WELL LITTER, GRAFFITI, ILLEGAL DUMPING, AS WELL AS HIGH GRASS AND WEEDS ARE CONTROLLED. CITY RESOURCES ARE LIMITED AND CANNOT KEEP UP WITH DAILY DEMAND. WCDC MAINTAINS ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL CUYAHOGA COUNTY COURT COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM PROGRAMS WITH THE CUYAHOGA COUNTY COURT COMMUNITY SERVICE ORGANIZATION. IN 2019 THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AWARDED WESTOWN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION A 5 YEAR 21ST CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER GRANT TO BENEFIT K-8 LOUIS AGASSIZ SCHOOL LOCATED AT 3595 BOSWORTH ROAD, IN CLEVELAND. THIS IS THE ONLY GRANT AWARDED TO BENEFIT A CMSD SCHOOL. THE GRANT COVERS A 5 YEAR PERIOD TO SUPPORT AN AFTER SCHOOL AND SUMMER PROGRAMMING 2019-2024. FOCUS AREAS ARE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND SCHOOL CLIMATE. THE EVIDENCE BASED PROGRAMMING ARE COMMON CORE ALIGNED LESSONS IN MATH, LANGUAGE AND LITERACY SKILLS DELIVERED IN A POSITIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT WITH INDIVIDUALIZED SMALL GROUP TUTORING AND HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE. WCDC WILL DESIGN AND IMPLEMENT PROGRAMMING FOCUSED ON CAREER DEVELOPMENT, GLOBAL EDUCATION, CULTURE AND CONNECTIONS BETWEEN PEOPLE AND PLACES IN OUR COMMUNITY. 3. COMMUNITY MARKETING & BRANDING: WCDC'S SUPPORTS ITS RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES THROUGH ITS SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS. CURRENT FOLLOWERS EXCEED 4000 ON WCDC'S AND FRIENDS OF THE HISTORIC VARIETY THEATRE FACE BOOK PAGES. 4. ARTS & CULTURE: WCDC SUPPORTS ARTS & CULTURE IN ITS SERVICE AREA THROUGH FUND RAISING, SPONSORSHIPS AND OR GRANTS.
