The Bereas Animal Rescue Fund, Inc, (ARF) is a not-for-profit organizationthat shelters, rejuvenates and finds homes for stray animals that arebrought to the shelter. ARF is committed to the health and well-being ofstray animals for an unlimited period of time, as well as
ARF provides a wide variety of benefits to the communities it serves. Manyof these benefits are health-related; like general community health byreducing the number of stray animals spreading diseases to other animals.There are also specific health benefits to individuals that are derivedfrom having a companion animal in their lives, these include enhancedmental and physical health for preschoolers through seniors. Some of ARFsadditional community impacts include:ARF collaborates with the cites of Berea, North Olmsted and Olmsted Fallsas their only site to provide shelter for abandoned animals that are pickedup by police and animal control officers.ARF runs a summer camp every year with children for the Gathering Place.These children have had a parent or other family member that has beenaffected by cancer.
Seniors for Seniors: The program was created to match mature animals with mature adopters. Any adopter 65 years or older may adopt a dog or cat, seven years or older, for half of our regular adoption fee.Under the Wing Program: ARF is dedicated to helping people and animals staytogether, especially through emergencies that create temporary homelesssituations, such as domestic violence, hospitalization or foreclosure.Under the Wing provides foster care for the companion animals ofindividuals experiencing such emergencies.
Angels for Animals: Periodically, animals arrive at the rescue with extreme injury, trauma or immediate healthcare requirements. Without care, these animals would either die or be sentenced to a life of pain and suffering. These medical issues have included long-term illnesses like heartworm and diabetes, and immediate care issues resulting from car accidents, animal attacks and abuse, which have required surgery and limb amputations. As a no-time-limit shelter, we are dedicated to providing these animals with the medical and emotional care they need to return them to health and prepare them for adoption into a forever home. We established the Angels for Animals Program in 2006 to provide funding to cover such emergency medical expenses. The fund allows us to finance the emergency and special medical and healthcare needs of animals that arrive to us requiring special medical attention of $300 or more, without interrupting daily shelter operations.
