THEATRE IS A SHARED EXPERIENCE THAT ILLUMINATES THE MYSTERIES OF OUR HUMANITY. ITS MAGIC HAS THE POWER TO TRANSFORM US WHETHER ON STAGE, IN THE CLASSROOM, OR IN OUR DIVERSE COMMUNITIES. CATCO-PHOENIX CREATES THEATRE THAT DELIGHTS, CHALLENGES, AND TRANSPORTS.
ADULT THEATRE:CATCO-PHOENIX, INC. (THE COMPANY) PRODUCED THREE MAJOR PLAYS AND A STAGED READING, ONE OF WHICH WAS A MUSICAL TRIBUTE IN THE 2019-20 SEASON FOR MORE THAN 4,000 THEATRE GOERS. THE COMPANY REACHES ITS AUDIENCE THROUGH A SUBSCRIPTION SEASON, GROUP TICKET SALES AND SINGLE TICKET SALES. SEVERAL SEASON PACKAGES ARE AVAILABLE TO CUSTOMIZE THE INTERESTS OF INDIVIDUAL TICKET BUYERS. IN MARCH 2020, THE COMPANY SUSPENDED ITS PRODUCTIONS BASED ON THE GOVERNMENT MANDATE TO MITIGATE THE SPREAD OF THE COVID-19 VIRUS. THE COMPANY ENDED THE YEAR BY PIVOTING FROM IN PERSON TO VIRTUAL WORK BY OFFERING THE AUDIENCE A VIRTUAL STAGED READING OF A NEW PLAY.
CHILDREN'S THEATRE: THE COMPANY ALSO PRODUCED A SERIES OF EIGHT PLAYS FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES, SEVEN OF WHICH WERE MUSICALS. SPECIAL WEEKDAY MATINEES FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN, TOURING PERFORMANCES, AND WORKSHOPS. IN THE 2019-20 SEASON THE COMPANY ALSO TOURED OTHELLO: THE REMIXA HIGH-ENERGY SPIN ON SHAKESPEARE'S PLAY LYRICALLY REWRITTEN OVER ORIGINAL BEATS. THE COMPANY REACHED OVER 9,000 CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE THROUGH ITS PERFORMANCES. IN MARCH 2020, THE COMPANY SUSPENDED ITS PRODUCTIONS BASED ON THE GOVERNMENT MANDATE TO MITIGATE THE SPREAD OF THE COVID-19 VIRUS. THE COMPANY ENDED THE YEAR BY PIVOTING FROM IN PERSON TO VIRTUAL WORK BY OFFERING CHILDREN AND FAMILIES VIRTUAL STORYTIME READINGS AND EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS.
EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH: THE COMPANY HAS A ROBUST EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM. IT PROVIDES INTERDISCIPLANARY ARTS LEARNING THROUGH DRAMA/THEATRE TECHNIQUES IN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS IN FRANKLIN AND ITS CONTIGUOUS COUNTIES. IT ALSO PROVIDES AUTUMN, WINTER AND SPRING SATURDAY MORNING CLASSES THAT CULMINATE IN A PERFORMANCE AND A SERIES OF WEEK LONG SUMMER CAMPS AND DRAMA. THE COMPANY ALSO USES DRAMA AS A DELIVERY SYSTEM FOR ADULT LEARNING. IT FREQUENTLY COLLABORATES WITH LOCAL SOCIAL SERVICE AND SOCIAL JUSTICE AGENCIES. PARTNERS IN THE PAST YEAR HAVE INCLUDED, THE OHIO ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE, FRANKLIN COUNTY CHILDREN'S SERVICES, HEARTLAND GIRL SCOUTS, AND THE OHIO BAR ASSOCIATION.
