TO BUILD GIRLS OF COURAGE, CONFIDENCE, AND CHARACTER WHO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE THROUGH INFORMAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO HELP GIRLS PUT INTO PRACTICE THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF THE GIRL SCOUT MOVEMENT.
GIRL SCOUTING BUILDS GIRLS OF COURAGE, CONFIDENCE, AND CHARACTER, WHO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.
SUPPLEMENTAL ACTIVITIES, COUNCIL EVENTS, AND CAMPS BENEFIT OUR 16,107 GIRL MEMBERS. OHIO'S HEARTLAND COUNCIL OFFERED OVER 155 SEPARATE EVENTS/WORKSHOPS ATTENDED BY 3,335 GIRLS AGE 5-17 FOR THE YEAR. WITH THE PANDEMIC, COUNCIL WAS NOT ABLE TO OFFER TRADITIONAL CAMP OPPORTUNITIES TO OUR GIRLS THIS YEAR. THERE WERE, HOWEVER, TWO ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS WHICH WERE OFFERED (PRE-COVID) NOT ONLY TO OUR GIRLS, BUT, ALSO FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS. COMBINED PARTICIPATION FOR THESE TWO PROGRAMS WAS 545. 10,835 GIRLS PARTICIPATED IN OUR COOKIE PROGRAM, WITH GIRLS SELLING JUST OVER 1.9 MILLION PACKAGES OF COOKIES, RESULTING IN A PER GIRL AVERAGE OF 183 PACKAGES. OVER 60,774 PACKAGES WERE DONATED TO OPERATION SALUTE AND DELIVERED TO THE MEN AND WOMEN SERVING IN OUR MILITARY. OVER 2,644 GIRLS PARTICIPATED IN OUR FALL PRODUCT PROGRAM, SELLING OVER 79,000 NUTS AND CANDY ITEMS AND OVER 5,600 MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTIONS. THROUGH THE PRODUCT PROGRAMS, GIRL SCOUTS LEARNED FIVE SKILLS ESSENTIAL TO SUCCESS IN LIFE - GOAL SEEKING, DECISION MAKING, MONEY MANAGEMENT, PEOPLE SKILLS AND BUSINESS ETHICS.
GIRL SCOUTS OF OHIO'S HEARTLAND SERVED 2,175 GIRLS IN DIVERSE COMMUNITIES THROUGH A VARIETY OF TARGETED SERIES PATHWAYS IN VARIOUS NONTRADITIONAL SETTINGS THROUGHOUT THE COUNCIL. SERIES PATHWAYS PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR GIRLS TO BE INTRODUCED TO THE GIRL SCOUT EXPERIENCE THROUGH FOCUSING ON THE AREAS OF LEADERSHIP, TEAM-BUILDING, LEARNING NEW SKILLS, SELF-ESTEEM, GIRL AGGRESSION, FINANCIAL LITERACY, AND STEM. NONTRADITIONAL SETTINGS INCLUDE PARTNERING WITH COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS CHURCHES, COMMUNITY CENTERS, LIBRARIES, SCHOOLS, YOUTH CAMPS, AND YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS. IN ADDITION, SERIES PATHWAY PROGRAMS INCLUDE COMMUNITY BRIDGE TROOPS SUCH AS THE FRIENDLY HOUSE IN MANSFIELD AND THE BONDS BEYOND BARS THROUGH THE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE OHIO REFORMATORY FOR WOMEN. GIRL SCOUT PROGRAMMING CONTINUED THROUGHOUT THE PANDEMIC TO SUPPORT THE GIRLS THROUGHOUT THE COUNCIL.
VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT, DEVELOPMENT, ENRICHMENT, SUPPORT AND RECOGNITIONS FOR 4691 DIRECT SERVICE VOLUNTEER MEMBERS. VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATE IN CORE REQUIRED COURSES OF SUCCESSFUL LEADER LEARNING SERIES, SAFETY ESSENTIALS, LEADERSHIP ESSENTIALS, CPR/FIRST AID AND TROOP CAMP CERTIFICATION PRODUCT PROGRAM TRAINING, TRAVEL TRAINING AND HIGHEST AWARDS TRAINING. THESE ARE DELIVERED FACE TO FACE, ONLINE, AND ONLINE FACILITATED. COURSES ARE OFFERED THROUGHOUT THE COUNCIL JURISDICTION. THE EVENTS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, ADULT CAMPOREE (1), WINTER WARM UP (6), ONE AND DONE (MONTHLY) AND VARIOUS OTHER EVENTS HELD COUNCIL-WIDE TARGETING SPECIAL NEEDS AND RECOGNITIONS. THE COURSES ARE DESIGNED TO PROVIDE ORGANIZATIONAL KNOWLEDGE (BOTH NATIONAL AND LOCAL) AND EDUCATE ABOUT THE GIRL SCOUT LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE. VOLUNTEERS HAVE ACCESS TO AN ONLINE TROOP MANAGEMENT PLATFORM (VOLUNTEER TOOLKIT) AND AN ON DEMAND VIRTUAL LEARNING PLATFORM (GSLEARN) VOLUNTEERS HAVE ACCESS TO OVER 200 ENRICHMENT COURSES THROUGH GSLEARN.
