THE MISSION OF THE LINCOLN THEATRE ASSOCIATION IS TO SERVE AS THE STEWARD OF THE HISTORIC LANDMARK THEATRE, AS AN INCUBATOR FOR TALENTED, EMERGING ARTISTS IN OUR COMMUNITY, AS A PRESENTER OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY ARTISTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD, AND AS A CREATIVE PARTNER THAT IS AN ECONOMIC CATALYST FOR THE REVITALIZATION OF THE KING-LINCOLN DISTRICT AND DOWNTOWN COLUMBUS.
TO OPERATE THE HISTORIC LINCOLN THEATRE IN COLUMBUS, OHIO
THE LINCOLN THEATRE ASSOCIATION MANAGES AND OPERATES THE HISTORIC LINCOLN THEATRE COMPLEX LOCATED IN THE KING-LINCOLN DISTRICT OF COLUMBUS, OH. OPERATION OF THE THEATRE CONSISTED OF OVERSEEING RENTAL OF THE THEATRE AND RELATED REHEARSAL AND BALLROOM SPACES, AND OVERSEEING OFFICE SPACE AND EDUCATION SPACES. MORE THAN 40,000 PEOPLE ATTENDED EVENTS AT THE THEATRE, INCLUDING RECEPTIONS, COMMUNITY GATHERINGS, AND A WIDE RANGE OF PERFORMANCES. MORE THEN 2500 OF THOSE PEOPLE ATTENDED EVENTS SPONSORED BY THE LINCOLN THEATRE ASSOCIATION. THE LINCOLN THEATRE PARTICULARLY ENCOURAGES AND SUPPORTS NEW AND EMERGING AFRICAN AMERICAN ARTISTS AND ARTS ORGANIZATIONS.
THE LINCOLN THEATRE ASSOCIATION ALSO PROVIDED SEVERAL TYPES OF PROGRAMMING TO BENEFIT THE COMMUNITY. OUR BACKSTAGE AT THE LINCOLN PERFORMANCES FEATURED LOCAL MUSICIANS IN AN INTIMATE SETTING IN OUTSTANDING PROGRAMS THAT SHOWCASED JAZZ, SOUL, FUSION, R&B, AND GOSPEL. OUR EDUCATION PROGRAMS SERVED ALL AGES OF THE KING-LINCOLN DISTRICT AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. OUR LARGEST EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR ADULTS SERVED EMERGING ARTISTS, PROVIDING A SERIES OF CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS THAT PROVIDED PRACTICAL GUIDANCE ON ISSUES SUCH AS COPYRIGHT LAW, INSURANCE, AND PROFESSIONAL LIGHTING. FOR CHILDREN, OUR LARGEST PROGRAM WAS OUR PATTERNZ SUMMER CAMP, WHICH SERVED HUNDREDS OF CHILDREN AGES 6-13 FOR SIX WEEKS, PROVIDING ARTS EDUCATION EXPRERIENCES. CAMPERS LEARNED ABOUT THE BACKGROUNDS OF DANCE, VISUAL ARTS, AND MUSIC, WHILE THEY BUILT PERFORMING SKILLS AND IMPORTANT SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SKILLS, SUCH AS SELF-CONFIDENCE. THE LINCOLN THEATRE PROUDLY HOSTED A FREE COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS SERIES WITH PANEL DISCUSSIONS ON TIMELY SUBJECTS. FOR EXAMPLE, A COMMUNITY CONVERSATION IN THE SPRING FOCUSED ON "THE AFRICAN DIASPORA IN DANCE". WE HAVE ESTABLISHED AN ANNUAL WALK OF FAME TO HONOR LOCAL ARITSTS AND CULTURAL FIGURES. IN 2019 WE HONORED BETTYE STULL (CULTURAL ARTS CURATOR) AND THEODORE "TED" TURNER (JAZZ TRUMPET). ONE NOTABLE EVENT WAS THE WORLD PREMIERE OF A NEW PLAY CALLED RENAISSANCE MAGIC! BY ALEXIS WILSON. IT WAS PRODUCED BY THE LINCOLN THEATRE AS PART OF A COMMUNITY-WIDE CELEBRATION OF THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE HARLEM RENAISSANCE. THIS PLAY WITH MUSIC AND DANCE HONORED MANY OF THE ARTISTS WORKING IN HARLEM DURING THIS TIME. THE PRODUCTION WAS DIRECTED, CHOREOGRAPHED, AND STAGED BY LOCAL ARTISTS, INCLUDING MANY GRADUATES OF THE LINCOLN THEATRE'S ARTIST INCUBATION PROGRAM.
