STARTED IN 1989, ODVN MOBILIZES A STATEWIDE VOICE ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND PROMOTES QUALITY SERVICES FOR SURVIVORS THAT FOCUS ON SAFETY AND SELF- DETERMINATION. (ODVN) ADVANCES THE PRINCIPLE THAT ALL PEOPLE HAVE THE RIGHT TO AN OPPRESSION AND VIOLENCE-FREE LIFE, FOSTERS CHANGES IN OUR ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND POLITICAL SYSTEMS AND BRINGS LEADERSHIP, EXPERTISE AND BEST PRACTICES TO COMMUNITY PROGRAMS.
ODVN PROVIDES STATEWIDE LEADERSHIP ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ISSUES AND PROMOTES QUALITY SERVICES FOR DV SURVIVORS THAT FOCUS ON SAFETY AND SELF- DERTERMINATION. ODVN SUPPORTS 74 MEMBER DV PROGRAMS THAT SERVE ALL 88 OHIO COUNTIES WITH TRAINING, ADVOCACY, AND BEST PRACTICE PROGRAMS.
ODVN PROVIDES TRAINING, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND BEST PRACTICE SUPPORT TO 74 MEMBER PROGRAMS THAT INCLUDE 58 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTERS AND 16 NON- RESIDENTIAL DV PROGRAMS INCLUDING CULTURALLY SPECIFIC ORGANIZATIONS PROGRAMS SERVED MORE THAN 82,000 WOMEN, MEN AND CHILDREN IN 2019. MOST SURVIVORS ARE FEMALE, LOW-INCOME AND HAVE CHILDREN. ODVN IS THE LEADING RESOURCE FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ISSUES IN OHIO, AND IS A MEMBER OF THE NATIONAL NETWORK TO END DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (NNEDV). ODVN PROVIDES LEADING EDGE RESEARCH AND BEST PRACTICE RESOURCES TO MEMBER PROGRAMS THROUGH TRAINING, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, A RESOURCE CENTER, PUBLIC POLICY INFORMATION, TOLL-FREE INFORMATION/REFERRAL LINE, NETWORK NEWS AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES. ODVN PROVIDES THE ONLY COMPREHENSIVE TRAINING INSTITUTE IN OHIO FOR FRONT-LINE ADVOCATES WHO PROVIDE SERVICES TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVORS IN 2020, A TOTAL OF 95 TRAININGS WERE OFFERED REACHING 13,199 INDIVIDUALS FROM LOCAL PROGRAMS SHELTERS, CULTURALLY SPECIFIC ORGANIZATIONS, AND COMMUNITY AGENCIES. ODVN OFFERS A VARIETY OF TRAINING PROGRAMS ON TOPICS SUCH AS IMPROVING THE MEDICAL RESPONSE TO DOMESTIC IN THE WORKPLACE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROVIDED BY ODVN INCLUDES ON-SITE AND TELEPHONE CONSULTATION TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROVIDERS AND ALLIED PROFESSIONALS
ODVN PREVENTION PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE OHIO MEN'S ACTION NETWORK (OHMAN) AND THE NEW PLAYBOOK, AN EVIDENCE-INFORMED SIGNATURE TRAINING. THESE PROGRAMS WORK TO TRANSFORM INDIVIDUALS AND COMMUNITIES TO BRING AN END TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OVER THE LAST THREE YEARS, ODVN HAS WORKED WITH RESEARCHERS AT THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY TO IMPROVE SERVICES FOR SURVIVORS WITH PARTNER- INFLICTED BRAIN INJURIES (PIBI) AND ESTABLISHED THE CENTER ON PARTNER INFLICTED BRAIN INJURY. ODVN IS A LEAD PARTNER IN THE LINKING SYSTEMS OF CARE FOR OHIO'S YOUTH FEDERAL DEMONSTRATION PROJECT, A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT TO IMPROVE RESPONSES TO OHIO'S YOUNGEST VICTIMS OF TRAUMATIC CRIMES ODVN AND THE OHIO ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE ARE WORKING WITH 74 CHILD-SERVING ORGANIZATIONS ON THE 1 5 MILLION PROJECT.
ODVN LEGAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM HELPS MORE THAN 1,000 SURVIVORS ANNUALLY WITH A WIDE RANGE OF LEGAL SERVICES TO HELP THEM AND THEIR CHILDREN BUILD A SAFER LIFE. ODVN'S LEGAL PROGRAM ASSISTS SURVIVORS WHOSE INCOME IS AT OR BELOW 225% OF THE FEDERAL POVERTY LEVEL AND WHO CANNOT BE ASSISTED BY OTHER LEGAL AID PROGRAMS. ODVN CONTRACTS WITH PRIVATE ATTORNEYS THROUGHOUT OHIO WHO WORK FOR A REDUCED FEE TO HELP SURVIVORS SEEK AND ENFORCE PROTECTION ORDERS, DIVORCE, CHILD CUSTODY AND VISITATION ISSUES. THE ATTORNEYS ALSO ASSIST WITH LANDLORD ISSUES, EMPLOYMENT AND IMMIGRATION HELP ODVN PROVIDES A RELOCATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM, THAT IS THE ONLY BACK UP FOR LOCAL PROGRAMS, WHEN THEY NEED TO MOVE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVORS AND THEIR CHILDREN TO SAFETY IN 2020, ODVN PROVIDED 572 OF SURVIVIORS AND 673 CHILDREN WITH AN AVERAGE OF 850 IN DIRECT ASSISTANCE FOR SECURITY DEPOSTS, UTILITIES, TRANSPORATION, AND MOVING EXPENSES. IN MOST CASES, THE LIFE OF THE VICTIM OR LIVE OF THEIR CHILDREN HAD BEEN THREATENDED BY THE ABUSER. ADDITIONALLY, ODVN PROVIDES LOCAL PROGRAMS WITH YOUTH ADVOCACY AND TRAUMA INFORMED SERVICES TO CARE FOR CHILDREN WHO HAVE WITNESSED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.
