The mission of the American Lung Association of the Midland States is to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.
To fight lung disease and promote lung health
Lung cancer, lung disease, and asthma - launched lung force in FY 2014, an initiative to make lung cancer a national priority by educating and empowering patients and healthcare providers and raising critical funds for lung cancer research. Developed and improved digital resources to serve adults newly diagnosed with lung cancer. Served more than 120,000 callers nationwide through our lung helpline, which provides answers and resources concerning lung health. Developed a comprehensive asthma management program within our local schools through the asthma-friendly schools initiative, which provides tools and resources to assist local communities. Conducted our asthma basics online course, which helps adults with asthma and their caregivers with information to improve asthma management. Hosted a nationwide public webinar helping COPD patients connect with social support and resources, including our better breathers clubs and the lung connection community, and provided lung health educational support to more than 100,000 people nationwide.
Environmental Health and Advocacy - With four of 10 Americans living in areas where the air is unhealthy to breathe, we funded Healthy Air initiatives including: producing our signature State of the Air reports, managing a woodburning stove replacement project in lower Michigan, and advocating for legislation designed to defend the progress of the Clean Air Act.
Tobacco Control - Development and implementation of school health programs and smoking cessation classes, printing and distribution of smoking cessation manuals and literature, development of policies for non-smoker's rights.
