We empower marginalized villages in rural Kenya to help themselves strenghten their communities and transform the quality of their lives
Two kitchen gardens were installed in Kailer for the purpose of demonstrating the advantages of dry farming methods using water harvesting and drip irrigation versus reliance on rain-fed agriculture. The gardens have demonstrated measurable success in its first growing season. They are growing a variety of nutritious vegetables for their family tables relieving food insecurity and malnutrition for the children. By no longer needing to purchase food, they are saving about $30 USD/month, which is enough to pay for school fees. There is also excess produce available to share with the widows and elderly of the village.
Other program accomplishments include tuition, fees and board for a student to attend the Community Health Assistant program at the Kenya Medical Training College.
