Organizations Filed Purposes: To provide a forum in which its members may discuss, evaluate and promote policies and activities that will enhance and protect the comfort, convenience and well-being of the Laurel Lake residents in a cost-effective manner.

The membership of the Association consists only of all residents of Laurel Lake Retirement Community, Inc. (LLRC), a continuing care retirement community, who have paid their entrance fee to LLRC. LLRC prohibits all its employees and staff from accepting any gratuity from residents. In order to acknowledge and express their appreciation for services received, the Association conducts a fund-raising event among only its members and delivers all funds collected to LLRC for distribution to all employees and staff except LLRC's CEO and those senior managers who report directly to the CEO. Approximately 355 employees received a minimum payment (before taxes) of $55 up to a maximum of approximately $1,185, allocated based on hours worked. Approximately 78% of all residents contributed.

Although the primary focus of the Association is on the activities and education of its members, it recognizes that it does not stand in isolation. The Laurel Lake Retirement Community Foundation, Inc. is the fund-raising arm of LLRC. Its mission is to encourage, administer and coordinate charitable giving to foster campus-wide enrichment projects, programs and services for the benefit of the residents of LLRC. In recognition of the support the Foundation provides, the Association donated $10,000 to the Foundation to further its work. The greater Hudson community also supports the residents, especially Hudson's Emergency Medical Services. Although the Association's members represent only 2.2% of EMS's service area population, 12.9% of EMS's service calls come to Laurel Lake. In grateful appreciation for EMS's services, the Association donated $50,000 to Hudson EMS for the purchase of new equipment.

As members transition from independent living to assisted living, long-term care and skilled-nursing care, they donate used household furniture and other durable goods to the Association. The Association sells these items to other members and to the general public. All funds received, except for nominal amounts spent for supplies and fees, are used to plan, develop, implement and support social and educational programs and activities for its members. Recurring programs and activities have included knitting caps for children and helmet liners for soldiers; growing, gathering, arranging and delivering flowers to long-term care and skilled-nursing residents; purchasing, planting and maintaining flower beds around the campus; maintaining a library of more than 6,500 volumes plus audio and video CDs and DVDs; delivering used fabric and clothing for recycling or distribution to the poor and homeless; organizing and presenting educational programs on recycling and care of the environment.
