THE MISSION OF THE UNITED WAY OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY IS TO IMPROVE LIVES BY MOBILIZING THE CARING POWER OF OUR COMMUNITY. UNITED WAY'S STRENGTH IS ITS ABILIITY TO BUILD PARTNERSHIPS AND TO LEVERAGE RESOURCES TO MAKE A MEASURABLE DIFFERENCE IN THE FAIRFIELD COUNTY COMMUNITY. USING THESE STRENGTHS, THE UNITED WAY HAS SET BOLD GOALS TO DELIVER SOLUTIONS TO COMMUNITY ISSUES IN THE AREAS OF EDUCATION, HEALTH, AND FINANCIAL STABILITY. PARTNERING WITH 24 FAIRFIELD COUNTY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICE AGENCIES, THE UNITED WAY HAS ALLOCATED FUNDS TO 31 PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE SERVICES TO ASSIST INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY OVERCOME OBSTACLES TO ACCESS EDUCATION, TO IMPROVE THEIR HEALTH, AND TO WORK TOWARDS FINANCIAL STABILITY.
THE UNITED WAY OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY OFFERS FREE TAX PREPARATION FOR LOW TO MODERATE INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES THROUGH OUR VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX SITE (VITA). OUR VITA SITE PROVIDED FREE TAX PREPARATION FOR MORE THAN 928 INDIVIDUALS OR FAMILIES DURING THE 2019 TAX SEASON. IN ADDITION, OUR TAX COUNSELING FOR ELDERLY (TCE) SITE, WHICH OFFERS FREE TAX PREPARATION FOR ANYONE OVER THE AGE OF 60, PREPARED OVER 602 TAX RETURNS DURING 2019. BOTH SITES UTILIZE IRS CERTIFIED VOLUNTEERS TO PREPARE AND FILE THE RETURNS. A TOTAL OF 1,530 CLIENTS RECEIVED 1.77 MILLION IN REFUNDS. UNITED WAY OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY ALSO PROVIDED ASSISTANCE TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES FILING FOR THE FASFA. 8 LOCAL HIGH SCHOOLS PARTNERED WITH UNITED WAY TO SET UP FASFA PREPARATION CLASSES WHERE UNITED WAY STAFF ASSISTED IN COMPLETING THE APPLICATION PROCESS.
UNITED WAY OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY ADMINISTERS DOLLY PARTON'S IMAGINATION LIBRARY, AN EARLY LITERACY PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AGES BIRTH TO FIVE. FAIRFIELD COUNTY CHILDREN MAY BE ENROLLED TO RECEIVE A FREE, AGE- APPROPRIATE BOOK MONTHLY TO INCREASE KINDERGARTEN READINESS. IN 2019, UNITED WAY OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY RECEIVED GRANT FUNDING THROUGH THE OHIO GOVERNOR'S IMAGINATION LIBRARY TO FUND 50% OF THE COST OF BOOKS. THIS GRANT HAS ALLOWED FOR A 12% INCREASE IN ENROLLMENT FROM 913 TO 1,039 WITH A TARGET OF DOUBLING ENROLLMENT BY THE END OF 2020.
