CONNECTING ARTS AND THE COMMUNITY.
OBERLIN CENTER FOR THE ARTS IS A PLACE WHERE LIFELONG CREATIVITY BLOSSOMS THROUGH ARTISTIC EXPLORATION.
ARTS EDUCATION: OBERLIN CENTER FOR THE ARTS ADMINISTERS IN-SCHOOL (OBERLIN CITY SCHOOLS) AND AFTER-SCHOOL (ELYRIA CITY SCHOOLS AND SANDUSKY CITY SCHOOLS) ARTS ENRICHMENT PROGRAMMING THAT IS FREE AND SERVING MORE THAN 200 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL-AGED STUDENTS PER YEAR. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DISTRICT ADMINISTRATORS AND FACULTY, AS WELL AS COMMUNITY ARTS ORGANIZATIONS, COURSES ARE OFFERED MULTIPLE DAYS EACH WEEK AND INCLUDE THE VISUAL ARTS, THEATRE/DRAMA, CHORAL, AND INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC AND DANCE. PARTICIPATING STUDENTS ALSO RECEIVE A VARIETY OF WRAP AROUND SUPPORT INCLUDING HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE AND A MEAL/SNACK AS WELL AS TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM THEIR HOME-SCHOOL WHERE NEEDED.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: OBERLIN CENTER FOR THE ARTS OFFERS INNOVATIVE PROGRAMMING THAT BUILDS PARTNERSHIPS AMONGST EDUCATORS AND HELPS TO CREATE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS THAT ARE EXPERIMENTAL AND INSPIRATIONAL. IN 2019, OBERLIN CENTER FOR THE ARTS OFFERED ITS SECOND ANNUAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING; ENTITLED "CREATIVITY AND CURIOSITY IN TODAY'S CLASSROOM" PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OBERLIN CONSERVATORY AND THE EDUCATIONAL SERVICE CENTER OF LORAIN COUNTY. IN ADDITION TO OTHER SITE-SPECIFIC AND TOPICAL PROGRAMMING, THIS SYMPOSIUM IS AN ANNUAL EVENT THAT ENGAGES EDUCATORS ACROSS NORTHERN OHIO.
SPECIAL INITIATIVES: OBERLIN CENTER FOR THE ARTS HAS INITIATED THE PERFORMING ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE, OR "PAIR" PROGRAM, PARTNERING WITH STUDENTS FROM THE OBERLIN CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC, MERCY ALLEN HOSPITAL, AND WELCOME NURSING HOME. THE PAIR PROGRAM INTRODUCES MUSIC, IN LOBBIES AND ALONG BEDSIDES, CAPITALIZING ON THE ART FORM'S ABILITY TO HELP ALLEVIATE PAIN, REDUCE STRESS, AND DECREASE OVERALL RECOVERY TIME. FURTHER, PAIR PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY TO FOSTER PERSONAL CONNECTIONS AMONGST STUDENTS AND FELLOW OBERLIN RESIDENTS.
