Organizations Filed Purposes:
To provide rescue services for Labrador Retrievers without owners, abandoned, or in local public animal control shelters or other human organizations.Spay/neuter dogs to improve the health of the breed and to reduce the over population, and educate public about breed and pet ownership.
To provide rescue services for Labrador Retrievers including full veterinary care,. Spay/neuter to combat breed over population and euthanasia, and to eduacate the public about the breed and pet ownership.
Rescue Services include veterinary expenses spay/neuter exp. noted below, boarding, foster home support, behavioral training, and supplies. Our largest expense is vet care. The dogs in our care are given full medical assessments and treatments as needed. We run full blood workups including heartworm testing on all of the dogs we take into care as a baseline to determine thier medical status. They are spayed/neutered, updated on their vaccinations, de-wormed and started on monthly heartworm prevention, if negative for heartworm disease. Heartworm positive dogs are given a multi-month heartworm treatment. In addition, we will treat any other diseases or injuries, or dental issues that our veterinarians find during their examinations. This is done to prepare the dogs for a successful adoption to their forever home.
Spay/Neuter Services - 34 dogs in 2020. Spaying helps prevent uterine infections and neutering helps prevent testicular cancer and some prostate problems. Spaying reduces the population of dogs in our area and reduces the need for euthanasia or rescue. We do not adopt out a dog until it has been fully vetted, including spay/neuter surgery. One thing we believe sets our rescue organization apart from the rest is that we also run a full blood workup on each dog sot that any blood cell counts or organ abnormalities can be addressed before the dog is safely sedated for surgery. This costs an extra 100 or so per dog, above and beyond the stated 5,217 stated above for the surgeries themselves. We pride ourselves in providing top-notch veterinary care for all of our dogs at a veterinary clinic. In an effort to help more dogs, we found a lower cost spay/neuter clinic in 2019 that does excellent work as good or better than our previous partners. We continue to look for more cost effective care while keepting the level of service and quality high.
Public Education - This category includes prinitng event fliers and most importantly educational materials. We hand out documentation materials at our events which may include such topics as pet health issues, dog traning informaiton, food contamination alerts, etc. LELRR maintains a website and active social media presence through which informatiom on Labs in need, adoptables, and current canine health and wellness issues are disseminated to the public, As part of our outreach, LELRR is very active in the community however, due to the pandemic we were less active in 2020. Normally, we conduct Meet Greets at local pets stores and attend other community events as well to further raise awareness of Labs in need, the importance of spaying/neutering, and caring for canine companions in general.
