MEDIATION IS A VOLUNTARY AND CONFIDENTIAL PROCESS THAT BRINGS DISPUTING PARTIES TOGETHER IN A NEUTRAL SETTING TO RESOLVE CONFLICTS. MEDIATORS FACILITATE AGREEMENTS BETWEEN LANDLORDS AND TENANTS WITHOUT INVOLVING COURTS OR ATTORNEYS. THE PROGRAM PREVENTS EVICTIONS AND THE RESULTING HOUSING INSTABILITY AND/OR HOMELESSNESS BY HELPING DISPUTING PARTIES RESOLVE ISSUES AT THE PRE-LITIGATION STAGE. ADDITIONALLY, PARTIES ARE PROVIDED WITH LEGAL INFORMATION ON THEIR RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER LANDLORD-TENANT AND FAIR HOUSING LAWS, AND THE PROGRAM PROVIDES TRAINING TO EDUCATE THE COMMUNITY ABOUT HOUSING RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES. THIS TRAINING HELPS FOSTER HOUSING STABILITY THROUGH MORE SUCCESSFUL LANDLORD-TENANT RELATIONSHIPS.
