Organizations Filed Purposes: TO ENGAGE INSPIRE AND EMPOWER YOUTH TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL THROUGH EDUCATION AND EXPOSURE TO LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCES

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM TO INSPIRE YOUTH TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL THROUGH EDUCATION AND REAL LIFE EXPERIENCES. DURING THE 2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR, 50 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS BENEFITED FROM THE PROGRAM. THE 3RD-8TH GRADE ENROLLMENT CONSISTED OF 150 IN AFTERSCHOOL AND WAS IN TWO OF THE FOUR K-8 WARREN CITY SCHOOLS DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR.FOR THE TIME PERIOD OF JULY 1, 2019, TO JUNE 30, 2020, STUDENTS ACHIEVED A 2.9 GPA AVERAGE, WHICH REFLECTS THROUGH QTR. 4 REPORT CARDS. ALL STUDENTS WERE PROMOTED TO THE NEXT GRADE LEVEL OR GRADUATED.TO MAKE CERTAIN THAT STUDENTS ARE ON TRACK, PROGRAMMING INCLUDES: MONITORING ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE, OFFERING TUTORING/INTERVENTIONS FOR STUDENTS STRUGGLING IN ONE OR MORE SUBJECTS, AND TAKING STUDENTS ON COLLEGE AND COLLEGE-RELATED VISITS TO IGNITE EXCITEMENT FOR THEIR FUTURE.DURING THE TIME PERIOD OF JULY 1, 2019 TO JUNE 30, 2020, 380 HOURS OF TUTORING WAS PROVIDED TO 30 STUDENTS IN THE SUBJECTS OF ENGLISH, HISTORY, ALGEBRA, GEOMETRY, PRE-CALCULUS, CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS AND GENERAL SCIENCE.DURING THE AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM STUDENTS USE PROGRESSBOOK, A CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT SOLUTION THAT INTEGRATES GRADE BOOK, LESSON PLAN DEVELOPMENT, ATTENDANCE, SPECIAL EDUCATION AND PARENT COMMUNICATION INTO ONE COMPREHENSIVE WEB-BASED SYSTEM TO REVIEW THEIR GPA, ASSIGNMENTS AND ATTENDANCE WHICH IS THEN CHECKED BY STAFF. ANY STUDENT WITH GRADES OF D OR F ARE FLAGGED TO RECEIVE TUTORING. MENTORS ALSO REINFORCE WITH THE STUDENTS THE CONCEPT OF STAYING ON TARGET WITH ACADEMICS. THE STAFF HAS BUILT A RELATIONSHIP WITH WARREN G. HARDING HIGH SCHOOL AND IS ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN STUDENTS INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATION PROGRAM (IEP) MEETINGS ALONG WITH PARENTS TO HELP MAKE SURE THAT STUDENTS SUCCEED. CURRENTLY THERE ARE THREE STUDENTS WHO HAVE IEPS. PARENTS ARE ALSO ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE IN PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES.IN THE FALL, HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS VISITED YOUNGSTOWN STATE UNIVERSITY, KENT STATE UNIVERSITY, KENT STATE TRUMBULL, UNIVERSITY OF AKRON, AND UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH. IN JANUARY, STUDENTS TOURED OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY. VIRTUAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WITH KENT STATE TRUMBULL TOOK PLACE IN THE SPRING WITH THREE SESSIONS OF SENIORS AND TWO SESSIONS FOR RISING SENIORS.TO DATE, 100% OF OUR SENIORS HAVE COMPLETED FAFSA AND A POST-HIGH SCHOOL PLAN. THEY HAVE COMPLETED COLLEGE APPLICATIONS AND SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS AS PART OF THEIR POST-HIGH SCHOOL PREPARATIONS. WE PARTNERNED WITH KENT STATE TRUMBULL TO DO ACT PREP IN THREE SESSIONS AND PROVIDE PRACTICE MATERIALS.PARENTS OF SENIORS, IN PARTICULAR, REPORT BEING MORE PREPARED TO HELP ENCOURAGE THEIR STUDENT FOR SUCCESS AFTER GRADUATION. BOTH SENIOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS RECEIVE INTENSIVE SUPPORT WITH FAFSA, FILLING OUT COLLEGE APPLICATIONS, FILLING OUT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS, NETWORKING FOR INTERNSHIPS, COLLEGE FINANCIAL PLANNING, COLLEGE VISITS, AND CAREER READINESS PREPARATIONS.THIS PROGRAM WAS ALSO SUPPORTED DURING THE YEAR BY IN KIND DONATIONS OF SERVICES INCLUDING CLASSROOM USE VALUED AT $20,000, TRAINING SERVICES VALUED AT $3,000 AND TRANSPORTATION SERVICES VALUED AT $10,000.

SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM (SEP) TO PROVIDE WARREN OHIO STUDENTS WITH A ROBUST EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN SPORTS ACTIVITIES, ART EXPLORATION, COMMUNITY SERVICE, SWIMMING LESSONS, STEM DISCIPLINES, AND LITERACY WORKSHOPS. IN 2019, 302 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN THE PROGRAM. ELEMENTARY STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN: DAILY HEALTH & FITNESS INSTRUCTION, A REVIEW OF THE IM CODE, WHICH IS A SET OF GUIDELINES TO FOLLOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL & PRODUCTIVE; SWIMMING LESSONS; T-SHIRT DESIGNING; ARTS, CULTURE & MUSIC ACTIVITIES; RECREATION TIME AND A SCAVENGER HUNT; GUIDED EDUCATION IN THE COMPUTER LABS USING THE ONLINE TOOL KHAN ACADEMY; BOARD GAMES; COLLEGE/CAREER READINESS RESEARCH; 8TH GRADERS TOURED KENT STATE UNIVERSITY AND HIRAM COLLEGE; CLEVELAND ZOO, FUN N STUFF & BOWLING; PLAYED SOCCER, FLAG FOOTBALL, VOLLEYBALL, BASKETBALL & TRACK/FIELD; LEARNED ABOUT ENTREPRENEURSHIP, FINANCIAL LITERACY, AND BLACK INVENTORS; HAD ALL-SITE COMPETITIONS WITH A TRACK/RACE DAY & ENDED THE PROGRAM WITH AN AWARDS AND RECOGNITION CEREMONY AND TALENT SHOW PERFORMANCE FOR PARENTS AND STAKEHOLDERS.HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS HAD AN EQUALLY RIGOROUS PROGRAM WHICH INCLUDED: A 4-DAY TRIP TO CHICAGO DURING WHICH STUDENTS TOURED PEPSICO, THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO, MILLENNIUM PARK, SOUTH SIDE COMMUNITY ARTS CENTER, THE SOUTH SHORE CULTURAL CENTER, BRONZEVILLE TOUR, AND WALKED ON THE NAVY PIER; AND 5 COLLEGE VISITS; TOURS OF LOCAL INDUSTRIES; PARTICIPATED IN STEM AND FINANCIAL LITERACY PROGRAMMING; HEARD FROM SEVERAL COMMUNITY LEADERS ON A VARIETY OF TOPICS; LEARNED ABOUT HEALTHY NUTRITION CHOICES; PARTICIPATED IN EXERCISE/YOGA; AND KHAN ACADEMY.LICENSED TEACHERS PROVIDED MATH, READING & LANGUAGE ARTS INTERVENTION DAILY TO SUSTAIN SCHOOL KNOWLEDGE THROUGHOUT SUMMER. HUNDREDS OF INSTRUCTION HOURS WERE CONDUCTED USING KHAN ACADEMY, A WEB-BASED ASSESSMENT THAT HELPS STUDENTS MASTER STATE-SPECIFIC, GRADE-LEVEL ACADEMIC STANDARDS IN A FUN/ENGAGING MANNER.INCREASE STUDENTS OVERALL HEALTH & KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTH/PHYSICAL FITNESS BY PROVIDING MANDATORY RECREATIONAL & PHYSICAL ACTIVITY 3-4 HOURS/DAY UTILIZING SPORTS, SWIMMING, YOGA, WEIGHTLIFTING, AGILITY & AEROBICS, & CARDIO EXCISES. ON FRIDAYS, ALL SITES COMPETED IN A TOURNAMENT FOR THE SPORT OF THE WEEK.LOW-INCOME STUDENTS LEARNED TO SWIM OR IMPROVED THEIR EXISTING SKILLS. 31% OF STUDENTS SAID THIS WAS THEIR FIRST TIME TAKING SWIMMING LESSONS.PARENTS AND STUDENTS COMPLETE SURVEYS TO GIVE FEEDBACK ON PROGRAM EFFECTIVENESS & COMMUNITY NEEDS. 96% OF STUDENTS SAID THEY WOULD BE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING NEXT SUMMER AND 82% SAID YES FOR THE AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM. 59% OF PARENTS SAID THEY DONT KNOW IF THEY WOULD HAVE HAD ANY EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR THEIR CHILDREN.PROGRAM STAFF MEASURED STUDENT ATTENDANCE REPORTING: 84% AVG WEEKLY ATTENDANCE & 90% STUDENT RETENTION RATE. ATTENDANCE IS CRITICAL FOR STUDENTS TO GET THE MOST OUT OF THE PROGRAM. 45 STUDENTS IN 3RD-8TH GRADE WERE RECOGNIZED FOR PERFECT ATTENDANCE!STUDENTS IN OUR PROGRAM ARE: ADVANCING TO THE NEXT GRADE LEVEL AND 100% OF OUR SENIORS HAVE GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL. BEING EXPOSED TO MORE THAN 10 COLLEGES AND 6-8 INDUSTRY AND MILITARY CAREER PATHS ANNUALLY. GRADUATING FROM COLLEGES ALL OVER THE COUNTRY AND ENTERING THE WORKFORCE. UTILIZING OUR PROGRAMS TO DEVELOP CHARACTER AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS; BUILD CONFIDENCE, DISCIPLINE, AND WORK ETHIC; AND DEVELOP VERBAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS.THIS PROGRAM WAS ALSO SUPPORTED DURING THE YEAR BY IN KIND DONATIONS OF SERVICES INCLUDING CLASSROOM USE VALUED AT $30,000, TRANSPORTATION SERVICES TO BRING STUDENTS TO THE PROGRAM EACH DAY AND BACK HOME THAT IS VALUED AT $40,000 AND ON SITE INSTRUCTORS VALUED AT $19,246.
