The Aberdeen Area CVB is a non-profit organization charged with representing the City of Aberdeen and helping the long-term development of the community through the marketing of travel and tourism in the Aberdeen area. We assist planners with meeting preparation and site selection along with encouraging business and leisure travelers alike to visit local, historic, cultural and recreational sites. As an unbiased resource, the Aberdeen Area CVB serves as the official point of contact for visitors, conventions, sporting events, reunions, meeting planners, site selection committees, tour operators, and outdoor/travel industry writers. The Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau provides many services that no other organization in Aberdeen does. The CVB bids on conventions and events and provides services to these groups including, but not limited to, personalized name badges, visitor welcome packets, coupons, maps, weather updates, registration staff assistance, site location selection, official City welcomes, hospitality breaks, event sponsorship and spouse tours. In addition, the CVB coordinates volunteers for many events and hosts the hospitality rooms for the SDHSAA State Tournament events. At the Storybook Land site, we employ a staff of four seasonal staff and 16 volunteer workers. We coordinate work schedules, conduct customer service training, order and stock both centers with literature and assist visitors. We also provide the SD State Information Centers with thousands of the official Aberdeen Community Guide which we develop each year. The official Aberdeen Visitor Guide is also made available to other organizations and businesses such as the Downtown Association, Chamber, ADC, Aberdeen Regional Airport, Library, City offices, lodging facilities and other Aberdeen businesses to be used in their marketing, and recruiting efforts. The Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau is the organization that coordinates requests for information about our City and attractions. In 2019 we mailed or distributed 26,194 requests for information from our ad placements, our websites, travel show attendance, social media, digital marketing and by phone. Visitor packets filled with Aberdeen information are handed out at sporting events, reunions, meetings and conventions hosted throughout the year. We also fulfilled requests for several thousand official Aberdeen Visitor Guides that were sent to area, regional and state visitor centers. The CVB will continue to track our requests for information by location and promotion/ad to determine effectiveness and response rate. We use this tracked information to maintain and adjust our marketing efforts to maximize the marketing exposure of Aberdeen. The CVB currently maintains a database of 885 conventions/reunions/group tours. We revamped the database to be more efficient on our end. This represented some classifications and numerous updates to make the process easier to track. Our goal is to contact/update each of these groups in 2020 depending upon their meeting date. We have set a goal to research additional leads of 3/month. The maintained database helps track repeat events or events that travel around the state on a rotation basis. The Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau is proud to play a role in the economic growth, vitality, and quality of life in Aberdeen. We will continue to work hard to showcase Aberdeen as a great place to visit, to play and to stay.
