THE HURON AREA CENTER FOR INDEPENDENCE IS COMMITTED TO DEVELOPMENT OF SERVICES THAT MAKE THE COMMUNITIES OF CHOICE AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE, MAKE INSTITUTIONAL AND SEGREGATED ENVIRONMENTS UNNECESSARY, AND SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF RELATIONSHIPS WHERE ALL PEOPLE ARE RESPECTED AS ESSENTIAL MEMBERS OF THEIR COMMUNITIES. TO ASSIST PERSONS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES TO PARTICIPATE AS ESSENTIAL MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITIES OF THEIR CHOICE THROUGH INSTRUCTION, ADVOCACY AND SUPPORT.
IT IS THE MISSION OF HURON AREA CENTER FOR INDEPENDENCE TO ASSIST PERSONS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES TO PARTICIPATE AS ESSENTIAL MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITIES OF THEIR CHOICE THROUGH INSTRUCTION, ADVOCACY AND SUPPORT.
HURON AREA CENTER FOR INDEPENDENCE IS DEDICATED TO PROVIDING QUALITY, OUTCOME-BASED SERVICES TO PERSONS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. CENTRAL TO THIS PHILOSOPHY IS DISCOVERING EACH PERSON'S UNIQUE GOALS AND THEN STRUCTURING SERVICES TO SUPPORT THEM IN WAYS THAT BRING THEM CLOSER TO ACHIEVING THESE GOALS. THE AGENCY BELIEVES THE INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAM PROCESS IS THE BEST APPROACH IN MEETING THE DIVERSE NEEDS AND DESIRES OF THE CONSUMERS SUPPORTED. THE TEAM IS MADE UP OF THE PERSON SUPPORTED WITH SOME OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE: GUARDIAN OR PARENT; SERVICE FACILITATOR; OTHER AGENCY STAFF. IT IS THE TEAM'S RESPONSIBILITY TO COLLECTIVELY DEVELOP A COMPREHENSIVE PERSONALIZED ENHANCEMENT PLAN DESIGNED TO ASSIST AND SUPPORT THE CONSUMER TO ACHIEVE HIS/HER PERSONAL GOALS AND DESIRES FOR LIVING, WORKING AND PARTICIPATING IN THE WIDER COMMUNITY. SUPPORTING PEOPLE IN REALIZING THEIR PERSONAL GOALS INCLUDES ENCOURAGING INDEPENDENT DECISION-MAKING AND SELF-ADVOCACY. 223 PERSONS RECEIVED 1/2 TO 24 HOURS OF INSTRUCTION, ADVOCACY, AND SUPPORT FOR 365 DAYS. RESIDENTIAL INSTRUCTION, VOCATIONAL INSTRUCTION, EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT, AND SERVICE FACILITATION WERE AMONG THE SERVICES PROVIDED. MANY BRIDGING ACTIVITIES WERE OFFERED TO PERSONS SERVED ENCOURAGING DEVELOPMENT OF RELATIONSHIPS WITH PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY. CONSUMERS WERE ALSO ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES IN THE COMMUNITY OF THEIR CHOICE AND SUPPORT WAS PROVIDED TO DO SO.
