Organizations Filed Purposes:
Lead, represent & assist conservation districts in promoting a healthy enviroment. Concerns include soil & grassland health, water quality & quantity, air quality, forestry, wildlife, recreation & human health.
Assist landowners/operators to plan & implement natural resources conservation measures. Such measures include technical advice, cost-share, follow-up and monitoring. Primary areas are soil, air, and water quality, animal & plant nutrient management, grazing lands management, wetlands conservation, and wildlife habitat. Staff assisted producers in developing resource managment plans and monitoring these plans. Wetlands were created, restored or expanded with accompanying acres receiving grazing managment planning. Soil health demonstrations and educational programs were developed and presented to wide range of individuals and groups. Residents of targeted watersheds recieved information, technical advice and cost-share in order to address water quality impairments, soil health, and conservation stewardship initiatives.
Educate the public and Association members on natural resources conservation issues and available programs. The Association sponsored or co-sponsored several education events. Multiple opportunities were offeed for conservation districts officials and staff to build capacity. The Association assisted SD Envirothon to icorporate enviromental education activities in education. The Associaton cooperation with the South Dakota State University Ag-Bio Prexy Council to raise awarness of agriculutre and natural resources stewardship through their Ag Day activities on campus. In cooperation with governmental and non-governmental partners, education efforts continued to increase on the importance of healthy soils. for production and sustainability. The Association cooperated with the Sand County Foundation and state sponsors of the Leopold Conservation Award to provide Leopold Award Winners opprotunities to share their stewardship story. The Associaton continued their involvement in raising awarness of renewable energy issues, opportunities and challenges. The Association is considering new opportunities to conduct or assist tree research.
Increase non-operating landowners' (NOLO) awarness of natural resources conservation measures, benefits and opportunities. The program focuses on interested landowners who own land in South Dakota but do not operate it themselves. Through a series of mailing, electronic outreach and events, the outreach introduces the NOLOs to their local conservation district and federal partner USDA-Natural Resource Conservation Service as well as other partners who could provide technical and/or financial assistance. Information continues to be provided on a variety of topics & opprotunities offered to participate in programs & projects.
