Organizations Filed Purposes: THE SOUTH DAKOTA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY WILL PROVIDE LEADERSHIP TO ENSURE A VIGOROUS AND PROSPEROUS BUSINESS CLIMATE FOR THE BENEFIT FOR ALL SOUTH DAKOTANS.

GIANT VISION - THIS ANNUAL ENTREPRENEURIAL COMPETITION PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR SOUTH DAKOTANS WHO HAVE IDEAS FOR NEW BUSINESSES TO VIE FOR STARTUP FUNDS. THE GIANT VISION BUSINESS COMPETITION BEGIN IN 2005 AND A STUDENT COMPETITION WAS ADDED IN 2007. APPLICANTS COMPETE FOR STARTUP FUNDS PROVIDED BY PRIVATE BUSINESSES AND THE SOUTH DAKOTA GOVERNOR'S OFFICE. THROUGH A JUDGING PROCESS, THE APPLICANT FIELD IS REDUCED TO THE TOP 8 ON THE BUSINESS SIDE AND THE TOP 8 TO 10 ON THE STUDENT SIDE. THIS EVENT IS HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ANNUAL CONFERENCE (OPEN TO THE PUBLIC) AND ATTENDANCE IS TYPICALLY APPROXIMATELY 400; HOWEVER, IN 2019, BLIZZARD CONDITIONS FORCED CANCELLATION OF THE EVENT. THE 2019 BUSINESS AND STUDENT COMPETITIONS WERE COMPLETED BY UTILIZING TWO REMOTE LOCATIONS (ONE IN SIOUX FALLS AND ONE IN RAPID CITY) ON TWO SEPARATE DATES. JUDGES GATHERED AT BOTH LOCATIONS TO VIEW PRESENTATIONS THAT WERE GIVEN IN PERSON BY SOME AND OVER THE INTERNET BY OTHERS. PRIZE MONEY AND STIPENDS WERE MAILED TO WINNERS AND PARTICIPANTS.

BUSINESS DAY PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ATTENDEES TO GATHER IN PIERRE TO LEARN ABOUT AND DISCUSS THE LEGISLATIVE REGULATORY AND BALLOT ISSUES BEING DEBATED. ATTENDEES PARTICIPATE IN THE ANNUAL "BUSINESS CAUCUS" WHERE OPINIONS ON ONGOING AND CURRENT ISSUES ARE VOTED ON VIA TEXT MESSAGES, WITH THE RESULTS INSTANTLY TABULATED AND DISPLAYED. THE RESULTS, REPRESENTING DIVERSE DEMOGRAPHICS, ARE DELIVERED TO STATE LEGISLATORS THE NEXT DAY.STARTING IN 2019, THE FORMAL BANQUET WAS ELIMINATED IN FAVOR OF EXTENDED SOCIAL TIME AND A SHORTER PROGRAM. THE TOTAL OF PAID ATTENDEES AND GUESTS REGISTERED FOR THE EVENT WAS 204.

THE ANNUAL ECONOMIC OUTLOOK SEMINAR PROVIDES ATTENDEES WITH UPDATED INFORMATION ON THE STATE'S ECONOMY AND FEATURES SPEAKERS ADDRESSING A CERTAIN SEGMENT OF THE ECONOMY. THERE WERE 215 ATTENDEES IN 2019.
