Organizations Filed Purposes: TO FOSTER RESEARCH & EDUCATION AND ADVANCE THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE PRACTICE OF PHARMACY IN MANAGED HEALTH CARE SETTINGS, THUS SUPPORTINGTHE CHARITABLE, EDUCATIONAL AND SCIENTIFIC GOALS OF AMCP.

ADVANCE THE QUALITY AND AFFORDABILITY OF OUR HEALTH CARE SYSTEM BY PROMOTING THE APPLICATION OF MEDICATION-RELATED RESEARCH AND EDUCATION.

THROUGH OUR IMMERSIVE SUMMER INTERNSHIPS, STUDENT PHARMACISTS GAIN KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTH PLANS, PHARMACY BENEFIT MANAGEMENT COMPANIES, EMPLOYER SITES, THE BIOPHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY, NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AND OTHER GROUPS. IN 2019, NINE STUDENT PHARMACISTS COMPLETED 10-12 WEEK INTERNSHIPS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE AMCP FOUNDATION AND GRANTOR COMPANIES. THESE FUTURE LEADERS LEARNED ABOUT POPULATION HEALTH AND MANAGED CARE PHARMACY CONCEPTS SUCH AS FORMULARY MANAGEMENT, BENEFIT DESIGN, MEDICATION THERAPY MANAGEMENT AND ADHERENCE. ALL INTERNS COMPLETED A CAPSTONE RESEARCH PROJECT, WHICH INTRODUCED THEM TO EVIDENCE-BASED DECISION-MAKING METHODOLOGIES AND PRINCIPLES OF HEALTH OUTCOMES AND PHARMACOECONOMICS.

P&T COMPETITION: AMCP FOUNDATION'S NATIONAL PHARMACY & THERAPEUTIC (P&T) COMPETITION ATTRACTED 67 SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES OF PHARMACY. TEAMS OF STUDENT PHARMACISTS ANALYZED A CASE STUDY INVOLVING A DRUG PRODUCT DOSSIER, REQUIRING THE EVALUATION OF RESEARCH AND THE COMPLETION OF MULTIPLE WRITTEN COMPONENTS. EIGHT TEAMS WERE SELECTED TO COMPETE IN LIVE PRESENTATIONS HELD AT THE AMCP ANNUAL MEETING, WHERE THEY PRESENTED TO A PANEL OF JUDGES REPRESENTING A P&T COMMITTEE. THE GOAL, IN THIS ANNUAL COMPETITION, IS TO PROVIDE STUDENT PHARMACISTS A FIRSTHAND VIEW INTO THE COMPLEX PRACTICE OF MANAGING A FORMULARY AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO HONE A VARIETY OF ESSENTIAL SKILLS.

RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM: THE 8TH ANNUAL RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM, "TRENDS IN HEALTH CARE: DISRUPTORS AND OPPORTUNITIES," DISCUSSED HOW TO OPTIMIZE TREATMENT DECISION-MAKING AND USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN CANCER CARE. THE HALF-DAY PROGRAM FOCUSED ON EXPEDITED DRUG APPROVALS, INNOVATIVE AND CURATIVE THERAPIES, AND THE ROLE OF HEALTH IT AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN ONCOLOGY. THE SYMPOSIUM IS AN EDUCATIONAL EVENT THAT EXAMINES THE BODY OF KNOWLEDGE AROUND A TIMELY PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE. WE CONVENE HEALTH CARE EXPERTS, RESEARCHERS AND PATIENT ADVOCATES.
