AS A SECTION OF THE AMERICAN WATER WORKS ASSOCIATION (AWWA) IN THE CHESAPEAKE BAY REGION, CSAWWA STRIVES TO CARRY OUT, LOCALLY, AWWA'S MISSION "PROVIDING SOLUTIONS TO EFFECTIVELY MANAGE WATER, THE WORLD'S MOST IMPORTANT RESOURCE" WHILE PROTECTING PUBLIC HEALTH, SAFEGUARDING THE ENVIRONMENT, PURSUING EXCELLENCE, ACTING WITH INTEGRITY, PROVIDING VALUE, AND FOSTERING DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION WHILE PROVIDING EDUCATION TO LICENSED PROFESSIONALS, OPERATORS AND SUPERINTENDENTS AMONG FORTY-THREE (43) NORTH AMERICAN SECTIONS; SHARING A COMMON VISION OF "A BETTER WORLD THROUGH BETTER WATER."
THE PURPOSE FOR WHICH THE ASSOCIATION WAS FORMED IS TO PROMOTE PUBLIC HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE THROUGH THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE QUALITY AND QUANTITY OF WATER DELIVERED TO THE PUBLIC AND THE DEVELOPMENT AND FURTHERANCE OF UNDERSTANDING OF THE RELATED PROBLEMS.
2019 CSAWWA'S ANNUAL CONFERENCE AND BUSINESS MEETING IS A JOINT EVENT WITH CHESAPEAKE WATER ENVIRONMENT, INC. (CWEA) AND WATER AND WASTE OPERATORS ASSOCIATION (WWOA). THE TRI-ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE WAS A WEEK-LONG EVENT WITH OVER 165 TECHNICAL PRESENTATIONS, A TRADE SHOW, AWARDS, COMPETITIONS, AND NETWORKING EVENTS. APPROXIMATELY 1300 MEMBERS AND PARTNERS OF THE THREE ASSOCIATIONS ATTENDED, AND CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS WERE PROVIDED FOR OPERATORS AND ENGINEERS.
1.) SPRING MEETING - CSAWWA COLLABORTED WITH CHESAPEAKE WATER ENVIRONMENT ASSOCIATION (CWEA) TO DELIVER THE JOINT SPRING MEETING . 125 MEMBERS AND PARTNERS ATTENDED THE FULL DAY PROGRAM WITH A SERIES OR PRESENTATIONS, WATER TASTE TEST CONTEST AND STUDENT POSTER CONTEST. 2.) FEBRUARY 2019, HOSTED A CAREER FAIR (JOINT EVENT WITH CWEA) IN BALTIMORE, MD. 30 FIRMS AND UTILITIES INTERVIEWED OVER 65 STUDENTS FROM LOCAL AND REGIONAL COLLEGES. 3.) THE 70TH ANNUAL SHORT COURSE WAS HOSTED BY CSAWWA, CWEA, AND WWOA AT MOUNT SAINT MARY'S UNIVERSITY IN EMMITSBURG, MD. THE FULL WEEK TRAINING SESSION PROVIDED INSTRUCTION TO OVER 275 MARYLAND TREATMENT PLANT OPERATORS. 4.) CSAWWA SENT SEVERAL REPRESENTATIVES TO ACE 19 IN DENVER,CO. THE WEEK-LONG EVENT INCLUDED TECHNICAL SESSIONS, A TRADE SHOW, AWARDS, OPERATOR COMPETITIONS, AND NETWORKING EVENTS. 5.) IN JULY, AWWA'S ANNUAL SUMMER WORKSHOP WAS ATTENDED BY SEVERAL CSAWWA VOLUNTEERS. THE TWO-DAY WORKSHOP WAS HELD IN DENVER, COLORADO, WHERE APPROXIMATELY 65 SECTION LEADERS DISCUSSED CURRENT INITIATIVES AT THE REGIONAL AND ASSOCIATION LEVEL. 6.) US EPA GRANT-FUNDED SMALL SYSTEMS TRAINING: TWO TRAINING SESSIONS ONE LOCATED AT DOVER, DE AND OTHER WAS HELD IN EASTON, MD) FOR OPERATOR TRAINING ON THE SAFE DRINKING WATER ACT AND BEST PRACTICES FOR ACHIEVING COMPLIANCE.
