Organizations Filed Purposes: TO LEAD AND MOBILIZE SOCIAL CHANGE FOR IMPROVED CARE AT THE END OF LIFE. WE ENVISION A WORLD WHERE INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES FACING SERIOUS ILLNESS, DEATH, AND GRIEF WILL EXPERIENCE THE BEST THAT HUMANKIND CAN OFFER.

MEMBERSHIP AND PRODUCT SERVICES - TO BUILD PROVIDER CAPACITY TO ENSURE ACCESS TO HIGH QUALITY END-OF-LIFE CARE, THE ORGANIZATION PRODUCED ITS ANNUAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OFFERINGS THAT INCLUDED THE LEADERSHIP AND ADVOCACY CONFERENCE (APRIL 2019), THE INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE (OCTOBER 2019), AND THE 2019 VIRTUAL CONFERENCE HOSTED IN COLLABORATION WITH THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF HOSPICE AND PALLIATIVE MEDICINE AND THE HOSPICE AND PALLIATIVE NURSES ASSOCIATION; HOSTED 24 WEBINARS THAT FOCUSED ON SIX DIFFERENT TRACKS THAT RANGED FROM REGULATORY TO QUALITY TO LEADERSHIP TOPICS FOR THE FIELD. NHPCO ISSUED 9,890 HOURS OF CE/CME CREDIT FOR ITS 2019 EDUCATIONAL OFFERINGS. AS A LEADER IN THE CREATION OF TECHNICAL RESOURCES FOR THE FIELD, NHPCO DEVELOPED AND UPDATED IMPORTANT PUBLICATIONS THAT INCLUDED, THE GUIDE FOR MANAGING PATIENT TRAVEL IN HOSPICE CARE, THE HQRP FAQ INDEX GUIDE, THE MANAGEMENT OF IMMINENT DEATH IN HOSPICE CARE TOOLKIT, AND THE UPDATED PEDIATRIC STANDARDS FOR PALLIATIVE CARE AND HOSPICE. NHPCO MEMBERS HAD ACCESS TO A WIDE RANGE OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT RESOURCES THAT INCLUDED A SERIES OF MEDIA TEMPLATES, A LIBRARY OF EDUCATIONAL ARTICLES, AD SLICKS AND SOCIAL MEDIA GRAPHICS TO SUPPORT CONSUMER EDUCATION AND PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT AT THE COMMUNITY LEVEL. IN 2019, WE HOSTED A BEREAVEMENT FOCUSED WEBINAR SERIES FOR MEMBERS. NHPCO'S MEMBER-ONLY NETWORKING WEBSITE, MYHOSPICE.ORG, HOSTED MORE THAN 78 MYNHPCO COMMUNITY CHATS WITH OVER 9,200 PARTICIPANTS. DURING 2019, NHPCO CONTINUED EFFORTS WITH ITS SUCCESSFUL WE HONOR VETERANS INITIATIVE THAT INCLUDED THE COMPLETION OF THE INITIAL PHASE AND FOCUS GROUPS FOR A WHV VIETNAM VETERANS PILOT PROGRAM; GREW PROGRAM PARTICIPATION TO 5,460 WE HONOR VETERANS HOSPICE AND COMMUNITY-BASED HEALTH CARE PARTNERS; REACHED 118 STATE-WIDE AND COMMUNITY-BASED HOSPICE-VETERAN PARTNERSHIP COALITIONS; AND SAW A 14% INCREASE IN LEVEL 3 & 4 PARTNERS. WHV GARNERED OVER 38,000 STAFF TRAINING PARTICIPANTS AND 42,000 COMMUNITY OUTREACH TRAINING PARTICIPANTS, OFFERING WEBINAR TRAINING TO 2,000 PARTNER SITES.

PROVIDE SUPPORT AND ACCESS - TO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT PROVIDERS WITH NECESSARY COMPLIANCE EDUCATION, NHPCO EXPANDED THE NHPCO COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM; ISSUED 24 REGULATORY AND QUALITY ALERTS TO ADVISE MEMBERS OF CURRENT CHANGES IN FEDERAL GUIDELINES AND RECOMMENDATIONS; AND ANSWERED MORE THAN 2,000 QUESTIONS FROM THE MEMBERSHIP. NHPCO REGULATORY AND QUALITY STAFF AND MEMBERS OF THE PALLIATIVE CARE ADVISORY COUNCIL HOSTED "OFFICE HOURS" AT BOTH IN-PERSON CONFERENCES THAT ALLOWED MEMBERS TO SPEND TIME FOCUSING ON ISSUES SPECIFIC TO THEIR PROGRAMS. TO SUPPORT PROVIDERS WITH THE PROVISION OF AND ACCESS TO COMMUNITY-BASED PALLIATIVE CARE, NHPCO RELEASED THE NHPCO PALLIATIVE CARE PLAYBOOK IN APRIL WITH NEW CHAPTERS ADDED IN NOVEMBER; CREATED RESOURCES ON PRIMARY CARE FIRST/SERIOUS ILLNESS POPULATION AND VBID MODELS FOR PROVIDERS; HOSTED EXPANDED PRECONFERENCE OFFERINGS ON COMMUNITY-BASED PALLIATIVE CARE; AND PRESENTED ON PALLIATIVE AND SERIOUS ILLNESS CARE AT MULTIPLE CONFERENCES AND PANELS ACROSS THE COUNTY. NHPCO'S PEDIATRIC PALLIATIVE CARE COUNCIL CONTINUED THE PUBLICATION OF ITS FREE E-JOURNAL WITH EACH THEMED ISSUE CONTAINING COLLECTIONS OF ARTICLES ON PEDIATRIC PALLIATIVE CARE AND HOSPICE WRITTEN BY PROVIDERS AND EXPERTS FROM THE FIELD. NHPCO STAFF WORKED WITH ABT ASSOCIATES ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF A HOSPICE ASSESSMENT TOOL WHICH INCLUDED CONDUCTING THREE FOCUS GROUPS AT THE 2019 LEADERSHIP AND ADVOCACY CONFERENCE ON HOSPICE ASSESSMENT; AND WORKED WITH RAND ON THE HOSPICE CAHPS SURVEY.

PUBLIC POLICY AND ADVOCACY - AS PART OF THE ONGOING PUBLIC AWARENESS INITIATIVE, MY HOSPICE CAMPAIGN, RELEASED THE COMPREHENSIVE POLICY BRIEF, HOSPICE: LEADING INTERDISCIPLINARY CARE; CREATED FACT SHEETS AND STATE-SPECIFIC INFORMATIONAL RESOURCES FOR HOSPICE ADVOCATES; LAUNCHED THE MY HOSPICE AMBASSADOR PROGRAM TO EQUIP HOSPICE PROVIDERS WITH FURTHER SKILLS RELATED TO GRASSROOTS ADVOCACY EFFORTS. NHPCO PRESIDENT AND CEO EDO BANACH DELIVERED TESTIMONY TO U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE IN NOVEMBER 2019 ON SUPPORTING AMERICA'S SENIOR POPULATION. SENIOR STAFF FACILITATED THE PANEL DISCUSSION AT THE LAUNCH OF THE U.S. SENATE COMPASSIONATE CARE CAUCUS, AND HAD SENATOR JACKY ROSEN (D-NV), ONE OF THE CAUCUS LEADERS, DELIVER THE OPENING KEYNOTE AT THE OCTOBER INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE. AS A RESPECTED VOICE OF THE HOSPICE AND PALLIATIVE CARE PROVIDER COMMUNITY, NHPCO POLICY TEAM MEMBERS ENGAGED WITH CONGRESSIONAL STAFF ON A FREQUENT BASIS TO ADDRESS ISSUES OF IMPORTANCE REGARDING HOSPICE AND ADVANCED ILLNESS CARE; STAFF AND LEADERS FROM THE PROVIDER COMMUNITY HELD MEETINGS WITH GOVERNMENT AGENCIES TO INCLUDE CMS, CMMI, OIG, AND MEDPAC; HOSTED A VIRTUAL TOWN HALL WITH STAFF FROM OFFICE OF THE INSPECTOR GENERAL ALONG WITH TWO WEBINARS IN COLLABORATION WITH HHS CENTER FOR COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP. NHPCO PARTNERED WITH THE BETTER MEDICARE ALLIANCE TO HOST TWO STAKEHOLDER ISSUES SESSIONS TO HELP THE HOSPICE PROVIDER COMMUNITY BETTER UNDERSTAND SOME OF THE DEMONSTRATION MODELS BEING PROPOSED BY THE CMS CENTERS FOR MEDICARE AND MEDICAID INNOVATION.
