Organizations Filed Purposes:
To Promote hope and recovery for indiviuals living with schizophrenia-related brain illnesses and ensure they receive respect, acceptance, appropriate treatment and opportunity to live a meaningful and satisfying life in a compassionate community that is free of discrimination.
Advocacy and Awareness: SARDAA is a National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH) Outreach, and Research Alliance Partner and provides education, influence, and support for research specific to schizophrenia and psychosis. Also, an active participant of the Mental Health Liaison Group (MHLG) to advocate for community awareness and treatment for schizophrenia and psychotic illnesses. SARDAA advocates for appropriate measures for the support of individuals diagnosed and their loved ones in pursuit of elimination of discrimination, increased access to treatment, and elimination of incarceration.
Schizophrenia Alliance: SARDAA provides administrative support and materials for Schizophrenia Alliance (SA) self-help/peer support groups around the country and globally. The groups are run by individuals diagnosed with a psychiatric brain disorder that includes psychosis. SA provides a unique type of help in dealing with psychosis that members do not receive from professionals or from other mental health organizations, including helping to increase understanding of psychosis and how to cope with it, helping to improve self-esteem, providing opportunities for participation in meaningful social roles, and helping to combat feelings of loneliness and social isolation.
