TO BUILD A STRONGER COMMUNITY BY INSPIRING AND MOBILIZING PEOPLE TO VOLUNTEER IN ALEXANDRIA.
VOLUNTEER ALEXANDRIA'S LARGEST PROGRAM IS THE COMMUNITY RESOURCES FOR VOLUNTEERISM, FOCUSED ON CONNECTING NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AND POTENTIAL VOLUNTEERS (INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS), ENCOURAGING VOLUNTEERISM, WHILE MAKING IT EASY FOR PEOPLE AND BUSINESSES TO IDENTIFY PROJECTS OR ORGANIZATIONS TO WHICH THEY CAN CONTRIBUTE THEIR TIME, SKILLS AND TALENTS. 3,225 NEW PEOPLE REGISTERED IN OUR SYSTEM IN FY 2020 AND 8,790 SIGNED UP FOR A SPECIFIC VOLUNTEER PROJECT. 361 VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES WERE CREATED BY OUR NONPROFIT AND CITY PARTNERS. OVERALL, WE RECEIVED MORE THAN 295,436 PAGE VIEWS WITH 51,679 USERS IN FY 2020. THE MOST VISIBLE EXAMPLE OF THIS PROGRAM IS THE CARE FOR COMMUNITY. A RESPONSE TO COVID-19 AND THE INCREASE IN VOLUNTEER NEEDS IN ORDER TO FULLFILL THE NEEDS IN OUR COMMUNITY.
ALTERNATIVE COMMUNITY SERVICE (ACS) IS A PLACEMENT PROGRAM FOR INDIVIDUALS REQUIRED BY THE COURTS OR OTHER AGENCIES TO PERFORM COMMUNITY SERVICE. THE PROGRAM'S GOAL IS TO MAKE AVAILABLE TO COMMUNITY NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AND PUBLIC AGENCIES AN ADDITIONAL, VALUABLE VOLUNTEER RESOURCE AND TO PLACE COURT-REFERRED CLIENTS IN SUITABLE COMMUNITY SERVICE SETTING FOR SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF REQUIRED HOURS. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR OF 2020, 183 CLIENTS WERE SERVED THROUGH THE ACS PROGRAM, PERFORMING 8,482.50 HOURS VALUED AT $215,710 IN SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY.
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS IS THE LEAD VEHICLE FOR THE RECRUITMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF VOLUNTEERS DURING AN EMERGENCY. IN COLLABORATION WITH THE CITY OF ALEXANDRIA'S OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND OTHER VOLUNTEER CENTERS AND NONPROFITS WITHIN THE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION, VOLUNTEER ALEXANDRIA CONTINUES TO FULFILL ITS MISSION BY MEETING THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY BY MOBILIZING PEOPLE DURING AN EMERGENCY. 28 NEW PEOPLE WENT THROUGH AN ORIENTATION AND 194 PEOPLE REGISTERED FOR A TRAINING IN FY 2020. 54 VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATED IN OTHER ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS EXERCISES, OUTREACH EVENTS, AND SERVICE PROJECTS. 50 VOLUNTEERS RECRUITED AND TRAINED TO RESPOND TO SNOW EMERGENCIES THROUGH OUR SNOW BUDDY PROGRAM.
