Organizations Filed Purposes: SUPPORT AIRMEN AND ENHANCE THE AIR FORCE MISSION BY RELIEVING EMERGENCY FINANCIAL DISTRESS, HELPING FAMILIES ACHIEVE THEIR EDUCATIONAL GOALS, AND IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF AIR FORCE LIFE. IN 2019, THE SOCIETY SPENT $7.6 MILLION IN DIRECT SUPPORT TO AIRMEN.

SUPPORT U.S. AIRMEN AND THEIR FAMILIES WITH EMERGENCY FINANCIAL AND EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE.

EDUCATION ASSISTANCE - THE GENERAL HENRY "HAP" ARNOLD EDUCATION GRANT PROGRAM PROVIDES NEEDS-BASED EDUCATION GRANTS TO CHILDREN AND SPOUSES OF AIRMEN. IN 2019, THE SOCIETY AWARDED $5.5 MILLION IN GRANTS TO 2,172 STUDENTS TO HELP PAY FOR COLLEGE. AN ADDITIONAL 46 STUDENTS RECEIVED $187,500 IN MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS AIMED AT THE HIGHEST ACHIEVING INCOMING FRESHMEN. SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION IS BASED ON A STUDENT'S GPA IN ADDITION TO A WRITTEN ESSAY. THE SOCIETY ALSO PROVIDED UP TO $1,000 PER STUDENT IN NO INTEREST LOANS TO HELP DEFRAY THE ADDITIONAL COSTS FOR TEXTBOOKS AND OTHER SCHOOL SUPPLIES. IN 2019, $53,000 WAS SPENT ON THESE SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION LOANS.

EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE (EA) - THE EA PROGRAM IS THE TOP PRIORITY FOR THE SOCIETY AS IT AIMS TO RELIEVE THE FINANCIAL PRESSURES ON AIRMEN AND THEIR FAMILIES BY ASSISTING WITH IMMEDIATE NEEDS IN AN EMERGENCY. SUPPORT IS PROVIDED THROUGH NO-INTEREST LOANS AND GRANTS, DEPENDING ON EACH INDIVIDUAL CIRCUMSTANCE. EA IS PROVIDED FOR BASIC LIVING EXPENSES, EMERGENCY TRAVEL, VEHICLE REPAIRS, FUNERAL COSTS, AND OTHER EMERGENCIES. AIR FORCE FAMILIES CAN ALSO RECEIVE SUPPORT DEVELOPING A FAMILY BUDGET. IN 2019, $ $6.1 MILLION IN NO-INTEREST LOANS AND $1.2 MILLION IN GRANTS WERE PAID OUT IN SUPPORT OF AIR FORCE FAMILIES WITH OVER 8,400 ASSISTS.

COMMUNITY PROGRAMS - THE SOCIETY SUPPORTS SEVERAL BASE-LEVEL PROGRAMS AIMED AT IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR AIR FORCE FAMILIES. AFAS SPENT $656,000 TO FUND THREE CHILDCARE PROGRAMS: GIVE PARENTS A BREAK, CHILDCARE FOR PCS MOVES, AND CHILDCARE FOR VOLUNTEERS. APPROXIMATELY 13,800 CHILDREN WERE CARED FOR IN 2019. THE SPOUSE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM PROVIDED ENTRY-LEVEL TRAINING TO OVER 541 AF SPOUSES DURING THE YEAR, SPENDING $342,000. BUNDLES FOR BABIES PROVIDES EXPECTING FAMILIES INFORMATION ON PREPARING FOR THE IMPACT OF A NEW BABY WHILE PROVIDING RESOURCES TO HELP FAMILIES ALONG THE WAY. $184,000 WAS SPENT TO PROVIDE $50 GIFT CARDS TO ALL ATTENDEES OF THE PROGRAM. OTHER PROGRAMS SUPPORTED BY THE SOCIETY IN 2019 WERE THE CAR CARE AND HEARTLINK PROGRAMS.
