NATIONAL LIVING DONOR ASSISTANCE CENTER (NLDAC): THE NATIONAL LIVING DONOR ASSISTANCE CENTER (NLDAC) WAS ESTABLISHED VIA A GOVERNMENT GRANT TO REDUCE FINANCIAL DISINCENTIVES TO LIVING ORGAN DONATION AND HELP MORE PEOPLE ON THE WAITING LIST GET A TRANSPLANT. ASTS IS A SUB-CONTRACTOR ON THIS GRANT WITH FUNDS IN 2019 COMING FROM REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA (JAN-AUG) AND UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS MEDICAL CENTER (SEP-DEC). ASTS ADMINISTERS THE DAY-TO-DAY OPERATIONS OF THE PROGRAM. IN 2019, NLDAC PROCESSED 1040 APPLICATIONS FOR ASSISTANCE AND PROVIDED OVER $2.2 MILLION IN PROSPECTIVE REIMBURSEMENTS TO THOSE PURSUING LIVING ORGAN DONATION.
CONFERENCES AND MEETINGS: THE SOCIETY ORGANIZES AND HOSTS A WIDE VARIETY OF MEETINGS DESIGNED TO SUPPORT IT MISSION AND ADVANCE THE FIELD OF ORGAN TRANSPLANTATION. THERE WERE 9 SUCH CONFERENCES/MEETINGS IN 2019 RANGING FROM 17 ATTENDEES TO OVER 5000. IN TOTAL, OVER 6000 TRANSPLANT PROFESSIONALS PARTICIPATED IN ASTS SPONSORED CONFERENCES AND MEETINGS AND CLAIMED OVER 1200 CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION CREDITS THROUGH THE ASTS ACCME ACCREDITATION.
COUNCIL AND COMMITTEE PROGRAMS: ASTS ADVANCES ITS MISSION THROUGH THE WORK OF THE COUNCIL, 22 COMMITTEE AND 9 TASK FORCES. INITIATIVES ARE FOCUSED AROUND THE 5 STRATEGIC GOALS - ADVOCACY, RESEARCH, TRAINING & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, OPTIMAL PATIENT CARE, AND ORGANIZATIONAL EXCELLENCE. SELECT ACTIVITIES INCLUDE THE DEVELOPMENT OF POSITION STATEMENTS, TRAINING TOOLS FOR NEW AND ESTABLISHED SURGEONS, PUBLICATIONS IN PEER-REVIEWED JOURNALS, AND MENTORING PROGRAMS FOR MEDICAL STUDENTS AND SURGICAL RESIDENTS.
