ASK, LISTEN, LEARN IS A MULTIMEDIA PROGRAM AVAILABLE IN PRINT AND ONLINE FOR PARENTS AND MIDDLE SCHOOL AGE KIDS. THE PROGRAM IS BASED ON RESEARCH THAT IDENTIFIES PARENTS AS THE LEADING INFLUENCE IN KIDS' DECISIONS NOT TO DRINK. BY FOSTERING CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN PARENTS AND KIDS, YOUTH WILL LEARN ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES OF UNDERAGE DRINKING, HOW ALCOHOL AFFECTS GROWING BODIES AND MINDS AND HOW TO STAND UP TO PEER PRESSURE. MATERIALS FOR PARENTS (ALSO AVAILABLE IN SPANISH) HELP PARENTS WITH BOTH WHAT TO SAY TO THEIR KIDS ABOUT ALCOHOL AND HOW TO SAY IT.
HARDCORE DRUNK DRIVERS ACCOUNT FOR A DISPROPORTIONATE SHARE OF DRUNK DRIVING FATALITIES ON OUR ROADS. IN AN EFFORT TO ACHIEVE FAAR'S MISSION OF ELIMINATING DRUNK DRIVING, EFFORTS ARE UNDERWAY TO REDUCE THE FATALITIES CAUSED BY THIS GROUP OF OFFENDERS. A LAW SCHOOL CURRICULUM HAS BEEN DEVELOPED WITH SUFFOLK LAW SCHOOL. JUDICIAL PUBLICATIONS SERVE TO ASSIST JUDGES IN THEIR EFFORTS TO ADJUDICATE THESE COMPLEX CASES, AND FAAR CONTINUES TO SUPPORT HARVARD MEDICAL SCHOOL'S EFFORTS TO CREATE AND TEST THE CARS ASSESSMENT TOOL DESIGNED TO FOCUS ON THE MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES FACING NEARLY HALF OF THESE OFFENDERS.
TALK EARLY ENCOURAGES, GUIDES, AND SUPPORTS PARENTS, TEACHERS AND CAREGIVERS IN SPEAKING WITH CHILDREN ABOUT THE DANGERS AND CONSEQUENCES OF UNDERAGE DRINKING. EARLY CONVERSATIONS CAN COMBAT PEER PRESSURE AND DELAY POTENTIAL EXPERIMENTATION WITH ALCOHOL. TALK EARLY GIVES PARENTS THE TOOLS TO HAVE HONEST CONVERSATIONS TO HELP CHILDREN MAKE WISE CHOICES.
