THESE ACTIVITIES ATTRACT YOUNG PHYSICIANS TO THE FIELD OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES, SUPPORT RESEARCH BY PROMISING SCIENTISTS, ENHANCE THE EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF INFECTIOUS DISEASE AND HIV PROFESSIONALS, AND ENSURE THAT DECISIONS ABOUT INFECTIOUS DISEASES ISSUES ARE WELL-INFORMED BY SCIENCE.
PROGRAMS AND AWARDS:MICROBIAL PATHOGENESIS IN ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE GRANTTHE MICROBIAL PATHOGENESIS IN ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE GRANT PROGRAM SUPPORTS RESEARCH THAT SUGGEST EVIDENCE OF AN INFECTIOUS AGENT OR MICROBIAL COMMUNITY IS CORRELATED TO ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE AND PROMOTES NOVEL RESEARCH IN THE FIELD OF MICROBIAL TRIGGERS FOR ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE.GRANTS FOR EMERGING RESEARCHERS/CLINICIANS MENTORSHIP (G.E.R.M.)THE G.E.R.M. PROGRAM PROVIDES GRANTS TO MEDICAL STUDENTS TO CONDUCT AN INFECTIOUS DISEASES OR HIV-RELATED RESEARCH PROJECT DURING THE COURSE OF A YEAR UNDER THE MENTORSHIP OF AN INFECTIOUS DISEASES SOCIETY OF AMERICA OR HIV MEDICINE ASSOCIATION MEMBER. HIV CLINICAL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMTHIS PROGRAM PROVIDES SUPPORT TO PHYSICIANS TO PURSUE ONE YEAR OF HIV CLINICAL TRAINING PROVIDING COMPREHENSIVE HIV PRIMARY CARE TO AN UNDERSERVED PATIENT POPULATION. MENTORSHIP PROGRAMTHE IDSA FOUNDATION'S MENTORSHIP PROGRAM PROVIDES A PLATFORM FOR MORE INFECTIOUS DISEASES MENTORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES. MEDICAL STUDENTS, RESIDENTS, FELLOWS, PHARMD STUDENTS, AND PHARMD RESIDENTS ARE PAIRED WITH AN INFECTIOUS DISEASES MENTOR DURING THE IDWEEK CONFERENCE.
VALUE OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES AND CONTINUED WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT:DURING 2019, THE IDSA FOUNDATION WORKED WITH INFECTIOUS DISEASES (ID) PHYSICIANS AND RESEARCHERS TO EXPAND THE NUMBER OF TALENTED MEDICAL STUDENTS, RESIDENTS AND FELLOWS WHO COMMIT TO ID CAREER PATHWAYS.
