NSF - Eager Globe Flyover: Collaborative Research: Leveraging GLOBE student and citizen science data on the Flyover Country mobile platform for place-based, data-driven education.Flyover Country is a map-based mobile app that enables users to access geological data and cultural landscape information. Through an easy-to-use, intuitive interface, users select map layers and personalize their map view to include the features and data that interest them. Designed for use in both formal and informal educational settings, as well as for use by individuals, Flyover Country promotes understanding of Earth system science through place-based exploration of landscape features and human cultural history through mobile access to scientific data while in the field.
NASA CAN: This is a cooperative agreement from NASA's Science Mission Directorate supporting the NASA Earth Science Education Collaborative (NESEC). IGES is the lead and is partnered with three NASA Centers: Goddard, Langley, and JPL. Awarded in February 2016 for up to 5 years, $3.3M of a possible total of up to $14.7M is earmarked for IGES. A few of the many contributions IGES will be making to this effort are: 1) Overall project management and coordination; 2) Developing educationally relevant Earth STEM themes; 3) Act as a key liason to other CAN project teams; 4) Support training and online instruction for GLOBE initiatives; and 5) Lead the planning and implementation of the annual International Science and Engineering competition and awards.
NASA Independent Review of NASA SMD Education Products: IGES manages the independent peer review process of NASA Earth and space science education materials. Panels of both scientists and educators review submitted products to ensure that these are of high quality and meet rigorous educational standards. Reviewers also provide feedback to product developers, ensuring that the products that pass product review are up to par for teachers and informal educators to use.
