Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE MISSION OF SCCT IS TO:1. FOSTER OPTIMAL CLINICAL EFFECTIVENESS OF CARDIOVASCULAR CT THROUGH PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION, ESTABLISHMENT OF STANDARDS FOR QUALITY ASSURANCE AND PROFESSIONAL TRAINING, AND DEVELOPMENT OF EVIDENCE-BASED GUIDELINES FOR ITS USE TO ENHANCE PATIENT CARE AND IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF CARDIOVASCULAR MEDICAL PRACTICE;2. ENSURE STATE-OF-THE-ART APPLICATION OF CARDIOVASCULAR CT THROUGH TRAINING AND ACCREDITATION;3. SUPPORT COORDINATED RESEARCH EFFORTS TO PROMOTE FURTHER DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATIONS OF CARDIOVASCULAR CT, AND TO INVESTIGATE ACCURACY, EFFECTIVENESS, AND COST-EFFECTIVENESS IN CARDIOVASCULAR DIAGNOSIS;4. SERVE AS AN ADVOCATE FOR CARDIOVASCULAR CT IN ALL INTERACTIONS WITH THE HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY, MEDICAL POLICY DEVELOPMENT AND REIMBURSEMENT ORGANIZATIONS; AND5. CULTIVATE CLOSE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER SOCIETIES IN THE FIELD OF CARDIOLOGY, RADIOLOGY, VASCULAR SURGERY, AND VASCULAR DISEASE.
EDUCATION AND EVENTS: SCCT DEVELOPS AND ORGANIZES SEVERAL EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO TEACH AND ENGAGE PHYSICIAN AND HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS IN INTERPRETING CARDIAC COMPUTED TOMOGRAPY. THESE PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING, THE SCCT WINTER MEETING, SMALLER REGIONAL WORKSHOPS AND ONLINE EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITY. ALL OF THESE EVENTS SERVE THE PURPOSE OF FILLING THE GAP IN CARDIOVASCULAR CT EDUCATION THROUGH PROGRAMING THAT ADDRESSES THE MOST RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN CT TECHNOLOGY, SCAN AND INTERPRETATION PROTOCOLS AND CURRENT CLINICAL APPLICAITONS AND LIMITATIONS.
ADVOCACY: SCCT WORKS WITH MEMBER CLINICIANS AS WELL AS PRIVATE AND PUBLIC PAYERS TO ENSURE POLICIES ARE BASED ON THE MOST RECENT AND RELEVANT RESEARCH ON CARDIOVASCULAR CT, TO IMPROVE COVERAGE OF THE PROCEDURE FOR PATIENTS WHO NEED IT AND ENSURE REIMBURSEMENT IS APPROPROPRIATE AND ADEQUATELY REFLECTS COSTS.
PUBLICATIONS: SCCT PUBLISHES THE JOURNAL OF CARDIOVASCULAR COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY TO DISTRIBUTE THE FINDINGS OF THE LATEST RESEARCH IN CARDIAC CT; DEVELOPS CLINICAL PRACTICE GUIDELINES AND EXPERT CONCENSUS DOCUMENTS ON THE BEST USES AND PROTOCOLS FOR CARDIAC CT AND CONTINUALLY EVALUATES THE LEARNING NEEDS OF PHYSICIANS AND HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS IN THE FIELD AND USING THIS DATA, CREATES EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS TO ASSIST IN PREPARATION FOR CERTIFIATION EXAMS AS WELL AS ACHIEVING AND MAINTAINING VERIFICATION OF EXPERIENCE.
